They are smart, extremely powerful
and they hunt in groups, a mortally combination for their prey. They
are able to hunt any sea creature, from the smallest fish to the
largest animal on our planet, the Blue Whale. That makes them to the
most intelligent killers in the oceans. But what makes us to call them
killers? Is it their great variety of prey or is it their huge jaw with
more than 40 teeth? Although the name
“killer whale” has been proven wrong, they are
still called that to the present day. However,
orcas are anything but killers; they enormous social system is unique
in animal kingdom, because
of their playful, bright and gentle nature, orcas are fascinating
people from around the world. It doesn’t matter
where they live; in the
wide-open sea or in a
man-made tank, orcas definitely spark human’s interest.
People admire their strength and their ability to hunt co-orperatively
in the wild. Orcas in Marine Parks captivate people by their learning
attitude and their kindly character to humans. Also many people dislike their placement in captivity and the isssue of
releasing them creates major dicussions and debates. Although they
never had to be captured in the first place, successful breeding
programmes in the past years have been proven that they can adapt to
the captive environment. It’s your decision if
you want to learn more about orcas in captivity or in the wild. But
it’s unimportant where they live, they are still the
beautiful animals that we all adore.
