Gamers Club of Ocean County College

Uniting gamers of Ocean County College since 2007!

What is the OCC Gamers Club?

The Gamers Club was created to unite gamers of Ocean County College located in Toms River, New Jersey. The club features video games, board games, sports games and card games. This club is also a great way to met new friends, start friendly rivalries and discuss important topics in the video game industry.

How do I become a member?

All students attending Ocean County College are welcome to become a full member of the club. In order to become a full member, you must attend at least five club meetings for at least one semester. Gamers Club meetings will be held at Conference Room A in the Ocean County College Bookstore. People who are members of the club or non-members that are simply there for recreation must sign-in. (The sign-in sheet is used not only to keep track of active members, but also as a means to contact any members if important issues arise.) If there is any trouble finding the sign-in sheet, ask a Club Leader for assistance.

Due to a limited amount of food and a horde of hungry college students, most refreshments offered will be for full members only. Non-members will only be allowed bottled water. All members can chip in money to help buy food during meetings, including Club Leaders. We also encourage full and non-members to bring new ideas and games to play during meetings.

Gamer meetings

Gamer meetings allow people to come in for gaming and relaxation. Also, during these meetings, we allow members to host their own small tournaments so that other members can practice events, tournaments, leagues, and gaming clans for their favorite games.

Club Leaders and Leader meetings

Club leaders play a key part in hosting tournaments and events. To be offered a club leader position; you must first be a full time member of the club. Leaders are either chosen through a voting process by full members during club meetings or are chosen by other club leaders that particular members are showing hard work and leadership skills. Once chosen, it is important that club leaders are to show up to club meetings when scheduled. If a club leader cannot attend a club meeting, it is important that he/she notifies the club president or other club leaders about their absence. In addition, if a club leader misses a meeting, they must take personal responsibility  in finding out what was discussed during that day. Failure to notify any leaders of their absence will put a leader’s status at risk, and is possible for a club leader to lose their position as club leader. Gamers Club highly builds on respect for both members and club leaders alike.

Tolerance Policy

All members must follow the Ocean County College tolerance policy (revise to O.C.C. Handbook). Any member that performs illegal activities that can danger the integrity and safety of the club/college will be banned from the club.

Education standards

Education is far more important then gaming. If your grades aren’t up to par, please do not attend club meetings. We’d rather have you focus on passing your college courses rather then passing level five on Gears of War.

Tournaments and events

Our club hosts a variety of games for both casual and hardcore gamers alike. Most of the events taking place will be video game tournaments. The type of game tournaments will depend on the popularity of the games among club members and college students. Tournaments hosted by the Gamers club will be for full members and non-members. A limited number of non-members will be permitted to join tournaments, but there may be some exceptions depending on the game and type of tournament match. Tournaments being held by the Gamers Club are mainly for fundraising purposes.

Some other events may include “Theme days” where Gamers club meetings revolve around a particular game or game genre (Ex: March Madness college basket ball theme, FPS game day theme, etc.).

Be advised to stay alert if a tournament or event becomes canceled or postponed.
