SPONSORED HORSE RIDE 2008

WE ARE DOING THIS RIDE FOR TWO VERY WORTHWHILE CHARITIES

The Mission for Deep Sea Fishermen

On 17th April 1993 the world came crashing down for Charlotte and her family.  Sean, her brother, and Ali, her mum’s partner had both been lost at sea.  They were both highly experienced sea men – Sean, a Fisherman, aged just 21, and Ali a Lifeboat Engineer, 33.

Nothing in life prepares you for this and as the shock set in that they were gone forever, The Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen knocked at the door.As the world crumpled around the whole family, The Mission organised immediate bills to be paid, helped through tears and disbelief and were always there when we shouted for help.

It’s time to help them out now as they still have a huge amount of support to give to other fishing families who are in the same situation today.

Cancer Research UK

Between the four riders and our support crew, we have all lost family members and friends to Cancer.  These include Mums, Dads, Grans and Grandads, Godmothers, Friends, Uncles and Aunts.  Whether it has been breast cancer, lung cancer, cancer of the spine or skin cancer (the list is endless).

Some of us also have friends and family suffering from cancer at present.  Lots of you will know somebody who has been affected in some way by cancer and we are taking this challenge to raise money to help more people get the treatment they desperately need and to fund more research into causes and treatment.

Charlotte, Lee, 'Little' Charlotte and Jo are riding from Whitchurch, Bristol to Beer in Devon on their horses to raise money for our two chosen charities.

Who are we doing it for?

The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen and Cancer Research UK.

Deep Sea Fishing is the UK’s most dangerous peacetime occupation and on average 28 UK vessels sink each year and over 100 Fishermen are killed or seriously injured.  The Fishermen’s Mission gives financial, practical and spiritual help to sick, distressed, disabled, retired and seagoing fishermen and their families who so often have to cope with terrible loss.

Cancer Research is the leading charity dedicated to research on the causes, treatments and prevention of cancer.  World class Doctors and Scientists are finding new and effective treatments of cancer quicker than ever before.  More than one in three people in the UK will develop cancer during their lifetime.

When are we doing it?

We are leaving Bristol from Oak Tree Equestrian Centre in Whitchurch on Thursday 20th March and will arrive at The Dolphin Hotel in Beer on Sunday 23rd March (Easter Sunday afternoon) 2008.

Please ring 01275 833222 (Oaktree E.C) for details of how you can support us and keep checking back on our website  www.freewebs.com/oaktreeec for more up to date details and to follow our progress.

We are soon to have collecting boxes at various locations and we will be raising hard earned cash throughout the year to support these two VERY worthwhile charities.
