TRADITIONAL OAK FRAMING
Features Of Oak Framed Buildings
Oak framed buildings have enjoyed many centuries of British favour. Strong reasons include aesthetics and longevity, but there are far more arguments for using oak framing than these.
There are few more secure building forms. Oak is naturally resistant to decay, lasting hundreds of years; will survive fire longer than steel, with correct detailing will be undamaged by wet weather and has tremendous inbuilt strength.
Oak is sustainable. Trees can be (and are being!) planted to replenish our building stock. All trees reach an optimum age before they go into decline and new tree growth is beneficial to the environment. Processing requires low use of energy and material and waste is almost non existent as even sawdust and shavings find uses such as animal bedding.
Value is assured. In previous centuries the carpenter on site would measure and cut each joint using simple hand tools. Large teams were needed to handle a piece of wood in situ. Today our modern and well equipped workshop is staffed by experienced and skilled joiners who fabricate the entire frame before transporting and erecting. This is a swift and efficient process demonstrating far greater accuracy than was possible in the past, whilst maintaining the skill and tradition.

The Oak Frame Company can assist with all stages of design & build. The in-house technical and engineering expertise is at your service from first enquiry to completed building. Each project is as individual as the customer. Your needs and aspirations are the basis of any project.
If you have a building plot and an idea, we can show you examples to stimulate thinking. We can assist with managing the entire project from start to finish.
At the other extreme you may be managing a self build already designed, in which case we'll be more that happy to just supply and erect your oak frame, liasing with your other contractors to ensure a smooth building process and to be cost effective.

Over 90% of our frames are 'one off' designed specifically for a client. There is little difference in the price of a special Oak frame except for design time.
With our own saw milling capabilities we are able to remain flexible and to produce timber sections to best meet structural or aesthetic requirements.
Supply and Assembly
We are pleased to quote against Architects drawings for the supply and erection of a frame and all it's related components and joinery. Alternatively we can provide design solutions working directly for you or as part of a professional project team.
Kit Supply
Given suitable labour resources we can simply supply a kit of components for erection by the self builder. We pre-erect joints in the workshop prior to delivery and comprehensive instructions are always provided so this option remains a realistic alternative.

We supply machined character oak flooring in any quantity. Let us know the width of board you require and the total area and we will be pleased to provide a competitive quote.
We produce several choices of grading for our flooring, ranging from rustic flooring to select character flooring, each grade offering its own charm and uniqueness.
All flooring is seasoned and kiln dried to the optimum moisture content of a home and can even be dried sufficiently to be laid over under-floor heating.
Our St Asaph showroom allows people to view each grading of oak flooring that we offer in its laid and oiled state, please feel free to call into the showroom at any time to view the options and grades available.
