Welcome to New Zealand Pug Rescue. I am the main co-ordinator in (the whole of) New Zealand for the rescue and re-homing of Pugs.
The Wellington Pug Dog Club established a policy in 1999, for the rescue and re-homing of Pugs. At this time a Health and Welfare fund was set up to cover costs involved with taking care of these dogs. With the increasing popularity of the breed was the concern of more back yard breeding, Pugs being purchased on impulse by people who were not fully aware of what Pug ownership involves, hence the possibility of more Pugs needing rescue and re-homing.
I now co-ordinate Pug Rescue/re-housing on behalf of both The Wellington and The Auckland Pug Dog Clubs.
We take in Pugs of any age, including those with health issues. Most are able to be placed into pre-approved new loving homes. Those that are unable to be placed because of age or health problems get to live out their lives in one of our own homes. We accept Pugs from all sources e.g. Animal Control, other Animal Welfare Organisations or owners who can no longer care for their dog.
Unfortunately our breed is one that has several health issues and few breeders who do adequate health testing of breeding stock. Quite a few new owners purchase puppies unaware of many aspects of this breed and what is involved with owning the Pug. Because of this an important part of what I do is in supplying breed information to prospective owners. I feel it is very important that people are as educated as possible, BEFORE they purchase. We can provide a breed information booklet for the cost of NZ$6.50 (this includes postage). If you are interested in purchasing a booklet you can email me through this link. nzpugrescue@ihug.co.nz
If you are interested in purchasing a Pug puppy and going through more reliable channels, you can complete the questionaire which you will find in the navigation field. If you click on my email address above to open a new email message, you can then copy and paste the questions, answer them, then email them to me. It can be sent on to someone who may have a litter due and they can contact you direct.
Note: This in no way indicates any endorsement of a particular breeder. Sale and purchase of a puppy is between the two parties themselves. We recommend that Contracts be used in all cases.
If you know of a Pug in need of our help, would like to offer a home to one of our Pugs or would like to donate to this worthy cause you are welcome to contact me through my above email address.

"How can I help?"
I often get asked this question. Whilst we rely on fundraising and donations to help with much of the costs involved, you could also help by donating a bag of dog food which is always gratefully received.
We feed the troops NutraGold www.nutragold.co.nz/ . Why don't you check out the quality of this product for yourself. If you decide to purchase NutraGold for your own dog/s, please tell Mike that you heard about it from our website. If you would like to donate a bag to Pug Rescue, let Mike know and he will deliver it straight to us.

Another product we appreciate is Tukkathyme Herbal Muesli www.tukkathyme.co.nz
Other items that we welcome include donations of Great & Small - Vets Choice, Joint Flex, Bomazeal Senior, Sasha's Blend, My Beau Senior (these can be purchased from any Veterinary Clinic or Pet Supply Store), as well as Visco Tears or Lacri-Lube (for eyes), or Otocleanse. Many of these items are used on a daily basis and generally not provided for out of the rescue funds.

*In Loving Memory*
Is dedicated to our beloved rescue Pugs who have since passed over the Rainbow Bridge. With the love from their new owner/s they were given the chance to live a happy, (if not 100%) healthy life. A big thank you to those people who have taken in a rescue Pug.
**We have now added a second page In Loving Memory 2 which is dedicated to other Rescue Pugs.**
If
you have had the pleasure of living with a Rescue Pug who has now gone
over the Rainbow bridge and would like them added to our site, please
feel free to contact me via email with if possible a little bit about
him/her and I will happily add them. A photo would also be greatly
appreciated and added.

We now also have an updated photo area of our Pugs. See the difference from when they were first added to the website.
We have a GuestBook which you are welcome to sign.
Many thanks for looking
Brenda
