Nz Fast Electric Boat Racers

Dear Fellow Fast Electric Boat enthusiasts of New Zealand,

Due to increased interest and Electric Rc boat holding the world RC boat speed record at 120mph It is time that some organised electric racing classes started appearing at Model Powerboat clubs / organisations

I am based in Papakura, Auckland and am looking for people who also have electric powered rc boats to get together and race, swap idea's and possibly form a F.E class within the MMPBA( Manukau Model Powerboat Association ) if there is enough interest, which i think there is, but the interest is never in the same place at the same time.

Bring your electric boat to Wattle Farm Ponds off Coxhead Road Manurewa at the Manukau Model Power Boat Association. Enough interest may spark a electric racing class..... And plus you get to see a wide range of  Cats, Monos, Hydros screaming around at around 70 - 100 kmh.....

See mmpbc website for Map Click Here

I have 4 boats at present, two abs kits and two balsa scratchbuilts, one is balsa boat will be retired shortly.

I have an academy triton with a 700bb and 14 cells - goes pretty good

video of it flipping a few times Triton in action

An Academy Supreme F1 tunnel i modified this boat by adding a gearbox, watercooling, larger prop

A scratchbuilt mutant ( hey it got up and planed a few times ) not very pretty but it was a learning curve

And my current aqua missile a rigger that just loves going hard i just put my 11 turn motor in it with a 1.8:1 ratio it goes real well, just things get a bit hot at the moment, this pic is running a Roar stock motor and 2.5:1 quite slow but runs for 7 minutes on 1.8:1 with the roar it goes ok, with the 11 turn it goes hard as!! for a 7 cell boat with an 05 type motor

I since have Aquired an Astroflight 035 7 turn, it doesnt like to rev so has to be propped just right with no geardrive, i ran it, on the geardrive, and it could swing a 50ml 3 blade prop, but wasnt fast, i removed the gear drive and put it direct, with a plastic 31mm prop it struggled to plane , with the prather s215 it was fast but not screaming and everything got real hot, the motor threw a magnet. Doh!! this motor has potential i think, once i get the armature straightened

Ive now got another boat, a 720mm fibreglass mono, the 700 has been raided from my triton and its kitted out with a prather flex cable, strut and a plastic kyosho rudder that ive extended using carbon fibre, i run it on 14 cells ( soon to be 16 ) and it handles nice and goes better than any of my other boats ( would be close with the rigger but riggers cant run in a heap of chop ) its a big nice well built hull
