Daisy
Daisy was a unwanted 2 year old Female from a Breeder of 12 years, who sadly to this day is still breeding selling. When I first got her she was very sick with diabetes and her incisors were protruding out of her mouth.

Daisy has now been here for 2 years and is the ‘mother’ so to speak of the rescues, she is wonderful with any rescue babies so I use her allot to foster them, she literally volunteers to care for them and if I do not allow it I am in for it!  She loves to ‘dance’ around and chat to the other permanent rescues, and loves her log, such a cutie!

Daisy though still has her health issues, as said when she first arrived – Diabetes and Malocclusion of her incisors.  Her incisors grow faster than normal and will grow off to the sides (looking like tusks) if not attended too by the Vet twice a month.  Obviously she is treated so often to prevent them doing this so she can lead a happier, normal life, and she doesHer Diabetes has long been brought under control (regulated) but this took a long 7 months to do from when I got her.  Now she just has her urine glucose monitored, a special Diet and Medication.  She is very happy in herself though and is just full of love, a truly special chin!  Daisy is now proudly Sponsored by her new friend Lycia!  Thank you so much for your help Lycia, she is very happy to have you as her new Sponsor!

Boe
Boe was a Family Pet of a breeder for 6 years until his owners decided to move without him, bringing him here.  When he first arrived you could tell he was sick it was horrible, but again denial by the breeder/owners came about.  He also has Diabetes (regulated but a blood glucose curve is done every 5 – 6 months) and Malocclusion (missing incisor teeth and tipping of cheek teeth), and like the others receives medication, treatment for his teeth once a month, his urine glucose monitored and is on a special diet.

Boe loves to do his own thing but loves his scratches too, and is known as the thief here!  In his daily runs he makes sure to run off with anything and everything, no matter how heavy it is, he tries! I could swear there would be nothing for him to grab yet he finds something lol.  He is so funny though and brings light into the Rescue I think. Oh, a friend was over to hold the chins while I took photos, so that is not my hand!   Boe has been happily Sponsored by his new friend Lycia, him and Daisy are sharing their new friend quite wonderfully!  Thank you very much for your help again Lycia, enjoy your 2 sponsored chinnys!

Kitara
Kitara is another unwanted chin from a breeder, she is a 9 year old who also has Malocclusion.  Her issue with her teeth is dramatic Crown Elongation, thankfully her Roots have been un-effected at this stage, but she still needs treatment every 2 weeks to make sure she lives a happy, normal life, and x-rays once every 3 months to make sure there is nothing developing with her Roots.

She is a very shy wee thing with strangers but when she gets to know you she is very sweet and loves her tail (yes, I said tail!) and chin scratched.  She is starting to get a bond with her Vet, very cute to witness!

Browyn
Browyn is a Male between 5 – 7 that was dumped in a cat cage on a road in Palmerston North just over 2 years ago now.  He really touched me, he is blind in one eye and has torn ears which at the time were fresh wounds, when I picked him up he also had conjunctivitis in the other eye making it completely shut not letting him see a thing, on top of this he was in a great deal of pain as he had sever Malocclusion, so you can understand he was very frightened and traumatised.  Checks and tests were done once back when more bad news come out that he also had Prostrate Cancer, it was all a horrible experience.  He had a tooth removed because of an abscess and his incisors were spiralling back and had cut and grown into the roof of this mouth.

All of this was thankfully managed and took two major Operations, and after a long road he now, just like the others is living happily and normally like he deserves, just needing his teeth to be done like Daisy’s – twice a month to keep them ‘normal’.  So far his Roots have not been affected.

After everything he has been through he is completely relaxed and a big part of the furry family!  He is a very quiet and peaceful chin who loves been talked too allot, he will literally come up and sit until you finish talking and lets you know when he wants a scratch by showing you his jaw lol.
Browyn is now happily Sponsored by his new friend Gayle (verrans on Trade Me), thank you so very much Gayle for your help, enjoy your new Sponsored chinny!

As mentioned on this site, the NZ Chinchilla Rescue receives no Funding and hardly any donations.  It survives on money from my own pocket and the Vet allowing me to thankfully pay off the Vet Bills.

Chinchillas at this Rescue are not adopted out until they are 100% physically and emotionally healed.  Each one of these Rescues before it is adopted to a forever home, costs me around $400 each in De-sexing, Food, Up-keeping, general Vet care, then in most cases if there are health problems such as needing Operations this can range from an extra $300 - $1,000 on top of that.  Allot of Rescues also have a price - many people regardless of condition of the chin (sometimes Rescues have been near death), want money for them because “they are worth this much….”

Rescues that cannot be adopted out because of illness or old age need continuous care, so they have a permanent home here with me where they will live out the rest of their lives happily, receiving all that they need.  These permanent Rescues costs are the same as the above but there are also more costs on top of these.

Sponsorship will be for any one of these permanent Rescues, it is a great way to help and be involved as well as to have your own sponsored Chinchilla!  Sometimes this way is nice if you cannot have a Chinchilla physically yourself or you wish to own another but can’t, reasons could include: if you are renting and the landlord does not allow Pets, expecting Children or have very young Children, maybe your partner will not allow any more or does not appreciate owning one.  Some Children that are too young to own them might even like to have their own sponsored chin, this goes a long way in teaching them for the future as well!

In return of Sponsoring you will receive from your new Chinchilla:

An invitation to come and visit your Chinchilla – this will include you feeding, handling, letting your chinchilla out giving you both/all an opportunity to get to know one another.

A personal letter of thanks from your Sponsored Chinchilla which includes life history (only of what is known so far)

Birth Certificate combined also into a Sponsorship Certificate with a photo of your sponsored chinchilla.

Updates throughout the Sponsorship year of your Chinchilla, either by email or post.

Every single cent from the Sponsorship fees go directly to that chosen Chinchilla and help go towards their food, Vet care and up-keeping. Money is not everything though and this is not what Sponsoring is all about either, so you have the option of Sponsoring with Food instead of money, this is very much welcome as this helps just the same!

Minimum Sponsoring fee (or worth of Food):

NZ $40.00 per year
Overseas $50.00 per year
