Exclusively Vegetarian
Malayan tapirs are vegetarians that eat more than 115 species of plants. But when they are threatened, they can still run quickly and use strong jaws and sharp teeth. Malayan tapirs are solitary creatures, which they announce their territory by spraying urine on plants.
Conservation
Malayan tapirs were once widely distributed in tropical lowland rainforests of Southeast Asia. Including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The numbers have decreased rapidly in recent ears due to human activities such as deforestation for agricultural purposes, flooding, illegal hunting and trading.
