Bronx Zoo is the headquarter of the Wildlife Conservation Society, which makes efforts to save wild animals and wild places now for over one hundred years. In New York, WCS does this through four zoos and the aquarium. Bronx Zoo is over 265 acres and opens 365 days a year.

Tips For Your Convenience: Bronx zoo is over 265 acres, so it's better to arrive early (Zoo opens at 10am). Visitors are also advised to use the Zoo Loop provided for easier access to the animals and exhibits.

 African Plains
African Plains consists a large area of the zoo. It houses African lions, cheetahs, giraffes and African wild dogs. You may feel like the animals are living in the same exhibit but they are actually separated by rivers. Along the trail, there are so many photo opportunities to capture pictures of predators and preys appearing in a safe distance. African Plains is one of the seasonal exhibits in Bronx Zoo. It opens between April - October, while it will be remain opened during the winter, the animals are likely to stay indoor. During inclement weather, some animals may become sensitive and may not appear on exhibit. NOTE: African Plains was the first predator-prey exhibit in North America when it first opened in 1941.

Himalayan Highlands
A very long walk from JungleWorld, I suggest to take the Zoo Shuttle. Here you can see red pandas, snow leopards, and white-naped cranes.

Big Bears
Big Bears is located just a path up from Himalayan Highlands. It features two bear species: grizzly and polar bears. The grizzly bears
came to the zoo as part as a rescue program in 1995. These bears enjoy the best care from their keepers and as well animal enrichments such as ice treats (frozen fish treats) to cool off a bit.

 Tiger Mountain
Tiger Mountain is a three-acres natural habitat of the four resident Siberian tigers. Animal enrichment sessions are held year-round at Tiger Valley. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions during that time. Training sessions are very important to these animals to perform natural instincts and behaviors by built-in, play-inspiring features.

Astor Court's Sea Lion Pool/ Madagascar!
Bronx Zoo's Cleo has given birth to pup Katy sired by Kiani on July 14, 2008. A new female named Clarice is also visiting from the Central Park Zoo.
Madagascar! is a brand new exhibit opened in 2008 featuring animals native to Madagscar including Nile crocodiles, lemurs and fossa. To avoid the crowds, please visit accordingly in the afternoon.
Exhibit News: Clarice gave birth to a male pup on June 23, 2009.

Review
Good Things About the Bronx Zoo:

-You can see a large collection of animal species, though you can't see any dolphins or whales jumping in a stadium.
-The large Zoo will keep you busy and entertained throughout the visit.

Not-Too-Good Things About the Bronx Zoo:
-Not even will you miss out some animal exhibits, you may get lost, so going by yourself is a bad idea.
-Some exhibits or transportation require you to pay, but walking around the zoo can be very tiring, so you decide.
-Bronx Zoo is in The Bronx, and can only be accessed by local subway lines, which is a long ride from other boroughs.
