Northwest Junior R.O.T.C.

Viking Battalion

SY 2008-2009

July is right around the corner. That means school (which starts on 8 August) will start soon. All returning Cadets need to think about their expectations of this year and what each of you can do for the program. Some of you have bettered yourself by attending Boy's State, Girl's State, Sports Camp, and participated in Summer Conditioning.

It is one thing to talk about how good our Battalion is. It is another to MAKE it better. We have the opportunity to take the Raider Teams to the Nationals (8 Nov), in Sandy Park, GA. The Goal will be to take one all Male and one all Female team. The Drill Team has the opportunity to go to the National Drill Competition, in Daytona Florida. (Mar 09). The drill team needs to ensure they will represent our Battalion and School proudly. I am also working on taking the BN Command and Staff to Boston, Mass for a Staff Ride (16-20 FEB 09).

All of this will take Cadet planning, fund raising, and a mature attitude. While these trips are fun, their purpose is to learn and become the best leader you can become.

Seniors; your clock is ticking, the next phase of your life will be here sooner then you want. The 1SG's and my goal is to give every Cadet the opportunity to attend College. While making sure you graduate as the first priority.

Juniors; this coming year is our preparation year for the big AFI March 2010. You conduct the briefing, you get the grade, you get the credit for our success. think about college but have fun.

Sophomores; this is your evaluation year. If you perform to standard and show leadership potential you will be asked to continue in JROTC (as our enrollment allows). If you do not, you will not return for a third year.

I expect to have a great year! The 1SG and I are working hard this summer to put more rigor and relevance into our classes.

Meet the challenge! MAJ

Mission of JROTC

The United States Army's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, or JROTC, is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. It’s focus is reflected in its mission statement, "To motivate young people to be better citizens." It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.

The Army Junior ROTC Cadet Creed

I am an Army Junior ROTC Cadet. I will always conduct myself to bring credit to my family, country, school and the Corps of Cadets. I am loyal and patriotic. I am the future of the United States of America. I do not lie, cheat or steal and will always be accountable for my actions and deeds. I will always practice good citizenship and patriotism. I will work hard to improve my mind and strengthen my body. I will seek the mantle of leadership and stand prepared to uphold the Constitution and the American way of life. May God grant me the strength to always live by this creed
