I'm second year in Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences. Ever since I joined CO during my secondary school days, I can only say that I'm really glad that I did! I did not continue with it at JC and at times, I thought I would never join a CO again. But, after coming to NUS, it all came back. A change of instrument indicates a new beginning for me and hopefully, I can make myself useful in this new family.

I'm a second year in Faculty of Science majoring Mathematics. I play the Er Hu in the orchestra since Secondary 2. I always thought the Chinese Orchestra is so old dated and boring. After joining it in Sec 2, it had changed my views. It can be fun with wacky people in it! :)  As I'm not from School of Computing, if there is any techinal problems in the page, do feel free to send me a mail.

I'm a science year 2 majoring in chemistry but I have no wish to become a chemist or researcher whatsoever. I'm also in dizi been at it for several years but my skills are no reflection of the comparatively richer experience accumulated over the years. As can be seen, I'm in webcom but i'm no active participant of this prestigious group and hence, I'm quite conscience-pricked that I'm to put up a profile like all the rest of the hardworking members. It might be difficult to read what I've written and that is the purpose because it is not exactly exciting and engaging well. Dizi is very nice and the more i learn, the more mystifying and profound I find this long plain tube is. And to think about it, I was quite disappointed that I was assigned this instrument back in secondary 1 as opposed to yangqin. I'm really glad by the twist of fate. Through dizi and Chinese Orchestra, I've also gained a lot of friends who share the same interest and don't mind trying to talk on the bus over the whir of the engine and shrieks of the school kids on how to maneuver the lips to produce a round bright note or how to breathe by expanding the abdominal cavity. Very nice times were those...

I learned to play the double bass in Sec. 1, and since then have played in the Chinese orchestras of Raffles Institution, Raffles Junior College and now NUS. During these years I also became deeply interested in Chinese history, and (besides majoring in History in NUS) have read widely on the subject, hoping to someday write and lecture on it for the English-speaking world.

A chorister and cellist, I enjoy making music. Language is another love of mine. Perhaps that is why I am here in the Chinese Orchestra, learning as an assistant editor in the web-comm. To make my stay here worthwhile, I hope to contribute in every small way I can, and learn in this big family as many others before me had.
