I have just done a search of the 1911 census (was hoping to find out when the Horns Inn in Lowton Road was built) and found refference to 'Old Dungeon at 12 Golborne Road, Lowton' at the time inhabbited by Mr Parkinson and his family. Does anyone know the background of this?
Was born in Lowton, my great grandfather used to farm the fields aroud the Civic Fields and my family have waked the fiels and footpaths from before time began.
My Great Grandfather, who is burried in Lowton St Mary's Church yard (as is my grandparents, parents, and other relatives) is listed in the1895 Kelly's Lancashire Directory as a Farmer Gibbon John, Lowton common.
I was born in Lowton in 1939 and attended Lowton Council School until 1946 before emigrating to Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia. A few names of schoolfriends that come to mind are Joan Lambert, Margaret Kennedy, Stuart, Alec and Duncan Leighton, Wilfred and Florence Bent, John Naylor.
lollo brasser says... lollo brasser : i once attended st chaterines of siena back in the 70īs there was a fire at the school and we were moved to st marys whoelse out there reembers this fire and went to school at st cahterines ?
Yes I remember the fire. I think it was late 1976, I was in class 2 (Mrs. Robinson's class) at the time. We were moved to St. Marys and then on to Chapel Walk before returning to the refurbished school towards the end of class 3 .
I was born in Golbourne and played for Lowton Labor club for many years. Moved to Australia in 1981 and have been in Melbourne ever since.
Married a girl called Angela Dean from Lowton before we emigrated.
Dave Holt I remember you.
I think Lowton has gradually been absorbed by all the places around it. I hail fromt other side of Culcheth and Newton in what was once just a three street village called Burtonwood. I had an aunty in Lowton and used to visit when little in the sixties. I thought Lowton rather grand then and remember it fondly.

Hi, my name is Bec, i live in Australia and have recently been doing my family tree. I am wondering if there are any Caldwells still living in Lowton now. My grandfather generations back was born in 1773 in Lowton and so was his wife Betty Battersby in 1777. If any of these names ring any bells or you are a Caldwell whose family has always lived in Lowton i would be interested to hear from you. I know this Caldwell family then moved to Warrington which is where they remained until 1878. I do know that all the men worked in the local sawmill. ok thanks again any help would be grateful ...thanks

Great website.I thoroughly enjoyed the photos. If David Wilcock is about I wonder if we are related?? My ancestors were Wilcock and associated with Sandy Lane and Belle Vue Cottages. I am researching them.
Hi Big Al, What is your point? Having a Warrington postal address does not put us in Warrington. Both of the bus undertakings you mention went into SELNEC now GMPTE and like you say Thatcher put us into Wigan who took over the bins from Golborne UNC and I have lived here all my life
answering lowtoner may i ask you how long have you lived in lowton we have had a warrington postal address for over 40 years as for gmpte the buses were provided by l u t lancashire united transport and leigh corperation buses and before thather put us with wigan we had or own council to empty are bins
I have just read the comment by Lowton Sparrow and would like to add if he/she thinks they live in Warrington Cheshire, Have you not noticed that on LEAVING Lowton you pass the welcome to Warrington Signs and the Cheshire sign is 500 yards before Junction 22 on Winwick Lane. Why if we send for the police or fire service they come from Gtr Manchester and NOT Cheshire, Why do GMPTE issue over 60 bus passes and NOT Warrington or Cheshire, Why does Wigan empty your bin and not Warrington..... Need I go on ?

Hi Dianne
sorry but I don't get round there
much these days, as for his age I would't have a clue The last time I saw him was 1980ish when I would have thought he was in his 50s then
Barry
Barry, guess what I have just found that he still lives in Heathmore Avenue, Lowton. If you know him please would you ask him if I can contact him. Please tell him that George Derek Royle (my father) was asking of him. He would love to contact him - I have found his phone number in the book. I did sometime write to him but he may have been suspcions about the letter - may have thought it was a hoax. George Derek was the son of George & Emma. My dad when small was at his father's place when he saw his first aeroplane. ALSO do you know what age Harold is? Thanks ever so much.
Thanks Barry for the info - that is great. You don't by any chance know any info on a George Royle 1821 married to a Sarah & lived in Mather Lane & worked as a railway labourer. Thanks for previous info.
