Exposing Bush's Crimes Against Humanity
Purpose of Event
On September 4, 2008, John McDermott,on behalf of the Not In Our Name coalition, personally delivered a Resolution for the Impeachment of George W. Bush to each member of the Philadelphia City Council.
At the 1st Council Meeting since Summer recess on September 18,2008, the Council failed to read the Resolution into the record. It is apparent unless the people of Philly apply more pressure to the Members, Philly will not join the long list of Cities, Towns,Counties, and State Legislatures, who have passed such a resolution as listed on the After Downing Street’s website.
Philly proudly boasts:
• not only was the Declaration of Independence signed in Pennsylvania State House
• and George Washington received his commission as Commander of the Continental Army,
• but also 221 years ago on Sept. 17, 1787 the Constitution and Bill of Rights were written there…..
a city steeped richly in the historical development of this nation....now the residents of Philly and people from across this nation, are challenging City Hall to reestablish the basic fundamentals of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Your organization, along with more than 30 others, will have the opportunity to have a table at the park to lay out your particular concerns and/or illustrate one of Kucinich’s articles of impeachment against Bush.

Goals for the Event
- Educate the public on the Bush administration crimes, and their lasting ramifications to our rights, plus the need for Congress to push for an 11th hour impeachment.
- In addition, give the people of
Theme/Focus of the Event
- To have participating organizations depict certain Articles of the Resolution presented by Dennis Kucinich on June 9, 2008 on the floor of Congress, as a detailed explanation of the action/crime spelled out in that resolution ,and what resulted from that crime, and its long-lasting effect on our democracy.
- For other groups who do not support impeachment, we would like for them to use their table to display materials expressing their issues of concern, reflecting the pain the Bush administration has caused over the past 8 years to their cause.
There is a growing number of people of conscience, who know they must do something to diminish the legacy of Bush/Cheney. They know that voting in a new leader will do nothing to erase the damage done by the current administration, nor from future administrations expanding their powers based on the actions of this administration.
Philadelphia is the 6th largest city in the country, consisting largely of a progressive population making it a perfect location to follow the examples set forth by scores of municipalities and cities across America, who‘ve already enacted resolutions for impeachment of Bush/Cheney. Besides Philly is were the foundation of our government was formed, a fact the residents hold dear and it should reclaim its place in history by demanding restoration to the Bill of Rights. Currently, a resolution before City Council concerns this just demand.
The day’s events will culminate in a discussion between our
Renowned Guest Speakers and
in an effort to persuade them to pass the resolution before them.
Mike Ferner, author of INSIDE THE RED ZONE: A Veteran For Peace Reports from Iraq , besides being a member of Veterans For Peace and director of Democracy Rising.
Professor Robert McIlvaine , teaches at Temple University, and appeared in the movie, 9/11 Press for the Truth. He lost his son in the Twin Towers on 911. Formerly with the group Sept. 11 for Peaceful Tomorrows and a member of 911Truth.
Anna Baltzer is a Jewish American Columbia graduate, Fulbright scholar, and the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors gives Eyewitness Reports from Palestine documenting human rights abuses & supporting nonviolent direct action in the West Bank with the Int'l Women's Peace Service. Author of Witness in Palestine: A Jewish American Woman in the Occupied Territories.
