Have you ever studied one of those old, faded sepia photographs of yesteryear
and become enthralled by those quaint Victorian or Edwardian figures captured in
a split second by the photographer as they went about their ways?
Have you found that after a few moments you feel drawn into the scene
until you almost feel a part of it? Perhaps the photograph conveys the hustle
and bustle of a busy market day, perhaps the homeward bound exodus from work -
the queues of people, the grinding of laden trams, the clattering of numerous
horse-drawn carriages. Then again, the glittering splendour of a ball, a country
railway station, a Bank Holiday at the seaside, the electric atmosphere of a
Music Hall, a fair, a picnic, a day on the river. The list is endless.
Have you ever wished that by some miracle you could be transported into that
very picture? WELL NOW YOU CAN!
We call ourselves NOSTALGIA UNLIMITED. A name that speaks
for itself.
We are a group of enthusiasts who look for opportunities to
relive past times. We endeavour to dress in costumes of the particular period.
Most of our costumes, however, are not original, but have been adapted from
clothes given to us or have been purchased from charity shops, or made by
copying old patterns or pictures.
We meet - dressed in costume appropriate to the period - at
organised past-era events such as Festivals, Fairs, Street Markets, Stately
Homes and Music Halls. We may go to venues such as working museums relating to
every day life and transport. We may attend one-off celebrations commemorating
anniversaries.
We produce lists of future events, wherever we can trace the
details, so that people know in
advance what is going on - they take place throughout the country.
We also write newsletters, exchange information and ideas, and
share our experiences.
