Now, Let me introduce myself .my name is Kenneth Anderson. I have had the Nosredna Affix since 1973 approx
I have bred pekingese for over 35yrs I also judge them .we have made up champions in UK. E.Africa. India. Japan. and have made up 6 Irish champions in the last 3yrs
The Pekingese are flying the flag for the { Nosredna Affix } .all over the world
We sometimes have puppies for sale which are fully vac,KC.reg. & Microchipped, at date of sale all puppies are at least 12 weeks old before they can go to there new homes ..
I have been with pekingese since I was 9yrs old when I lived with my grandmother she had them has pets this is where my love of the breed started, when i was about 23. I purchased two males Puccine & Rossine they were Red fawn with black mask. of the Caversham breeding , later I Bought a Parti col bitch, and mated her to one of the male and started my collection of Pekingese from then they have grown in number to what I have today.
Then in 1978 I had a very bad accident and had to give up breeding also my home. but I was allowed to keep two of my pekingese in my special home as they thought they were good for me. then in 1982 I purchased the home that I live in to this day, I then started breeding my Pekingese again a lot has changed in the breed since then and not may I say always for the good of the breed.
Last year we were asked to take part in a production of { DOGS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD } made by Tigress Production,Director, Corinna Faith, The dog was once a wild and savage Wolf .how did this dramatic transformation first take place and when and how did it happen? Dogs are one of the most rapid and incredible stories of evolution this programme argues that five essential types of dog changed man's world forever the production is in two parts .the Rise of the Dog .and Dogs by Design. the second part asks how was it possible for a wolf to turn into the most varied species mammal on earth in just 15,000 years the blink of an evolutionary eye. featuring stories from ancient China . Victorian England .and the Jordanian Desert. this programme reveals that the miraculous variety in dogs is down to very human choices and by making the right choices in the future we can ensure that the dog will continue to change our world.
We had nine of the Pekingese from our kennel taking part it was first aired in the USA 22nd & 29th april 07. a very moving story about the siege of the Palace of the Last Empress of China. with some of the the pekingese being brought to the UK. with one being presented to Queen Victoria. the others went to Goodwood the home of Sir,Gordon Lennox . In the filming was Alex, Boyo ,Ruby, Sonny & Talula, plus 4 of our puppies. a hard day for us all but it was worth it to see the end result a very sad and moving story
-------------------
The fabled origin of the Pekingese.
The story of the Pekingese has everything-romance,drama,intrigue,laughter and tears.it also serves to illustrate the close link between man and dog-in this case a link which was probably responsible for the very existence of the breed. The Pekingese is a dog of the Orient .He was virtually created in the royal court of china, where eventually he assumed a lordly and high position. Yet everything has a beginning,and so the Orientals have a charming story to explain his origin;
One upon a time in the land of Korea, there lived a lion.he was a happy lion.He had fallen deeply in love with a tiny monkey. The monkey , sensible as are all the feminine sex,pointed out to the lion how ridiculous was the idea of marriage, because they were so different in size. The lion was inconsolable. He pleaded with the Lord Buddha to help him . Could not the Lord Buddha make him small like the pretty monkey, so that she might accept his favors? The Lord Buddha was impressed by the great love the lion had for the monkey..so great that for her he was willing to sacrifice his strength and power. And so he granted the lion's prayer but let him keep his great courage, his big heart,and his majesty. The lion and the monkey were married and from this union came the Pekingese -with the form, the heart,the courage and dignity of the lion and the impudent face,the intelligence and sense of the monkey.
To the ancient chinese. credulous yet sophistcated,superstitious and steeped in elaborate ritual, this would be a far more satisfactory explanation than the zoological version we are given.
-------------------
The personality and appearance of the Pekingese are well summed up in a poem written by the Dowager Empree Tzu Hsi, who ruled Imperial China from1861 to 1908. This remarkable woman ,in between her machinations, probably did as much as anyone before or since to encourage good type and strong constitution in the '' Lion Dog."These are the famous ''Pearls dropped from the lips of her Imperial Majesty Tzu Hsi, Dowager Empress of the Flowery land of Confucius'';
"let the Lion Dog be small; let it wear the swelling cape of dignity around its neck; let it display the billowing standard of pomp above its back.
"let its face be black; let its forefront be shaggy ; let its forhead be straight and low, like unto the brow of an Imperial boxer.
" let its eye be dark and luminous; let its ears be set like the sails of a war junk; let its nose be like that of the Monkey God of the Hindus.
"For its color let it be that of a lion - a golden sable, to be carried in the sleeve of a yellow robe,or the color of a red bear,or of a black bear,or a white bear,or striped like a dragon so that there may be dogs appropraite to each of the Imperial robes.
"let its forelegs be bent, so that it shall not desire to wander far,or leave the Imperial Precincts.
"let its body be shaped like that of a hunting lion spying for its prey. let its feet be tufted with plentiful hair that its footfall may be soundless; and for its standard of pomp let it rival the whisk of the Tibetan yak, which is flourished to protect an Imperial litter from the attacks of flying insects.
"let it be lively,that it may afford entertainment by its gambols; let it be wary, that it may not involve itself in danger; let it be domestic in its habits, that it may live in amity with the other beasts,fishes or birds that find protection in th Imperial palace.
"let it venerate its ancestors, and deposit offerings in the Canine Cemetery of the Forbidden City on each new moon. let it comport itself with dignity,let it learn to bite the foreign devils instantly!
"let it be dainty in its food that it shall be know as an Imperial dog by its fastidiousness; sharks' fins and curlews' livers and the breasts of quails,on these may it be fed.
"And for drink, give it the tea that is brewed from the spring buds of the shrub that grows in the province of Hankow, or the milk of the antelopes that pasture in the Imperial parks,or broth made from the nests of sea swallows.
"Thus shall it preserve its integrity and self-respect and for the day of sickness let it be anointed with the clarified fat of the leg of a sacred leopard, and give it to drink a throstle's egg shell full of the juice of the custard apple in which has been dissolved three pinches of shredded rhinoceros horn,and apply to it piebald leeches.
" So shall it remain - but if it die, remember, that thou art mortal."*
