NORTHERN AGGRESSION
Northern
Aggression as an entity, has gone through a series of names before
finally arriving at the current juncture. Northern Aggression was
formed in Baker dormitory, as Silas Lowe and Mike Hoffmann, rejected
the hippie ways of UMASS central dorm living and elected to practice
Bluegrass and perfect the styles and listen to it and learn to accept
it. They met a local drifter who owned a banjo and told him to stop up,
When Tony wasnt totally out of his head he learned a few things on
banjo and eventually the trio started playing. Well the year ended and
then another year of school would begin, Silas and Tony were rooming
together with Hoffmann living downstairs, the Trio began practicing and
even playing out at Justin Paglias house, and Green-O sub shop and some
other local places. Mike Hoffmann began to study the mandolin under
bluegrass legend Frank Wakefield, and learning the ropes has been able
to play one of the best eight strings in the area and soon enough will
be one of the greatest mandolin players of all time. Silas
continued to play mandolin and more and more guitar, learning
flatpicking and becoming a monster on both instruments. Tony continued
to play banjo, and tried to learn some clawhammer as well as three
finger, to develop some new ideas. Under the names The Baker Baby
Makers, The Old Crow Rebels, The Wild Turkey Boys (Silas and Tony
solo), The Wild Turkey Wook Stompers, and finally the Dixie Wrecked
Boys. The Dixie Wrecked Boys would stick for a while, and they even got
some new members, The Squid had been jamming on bass, and a local
reverend said he would play some fiddle and guitar for them. Reverend
was also known to play some washtub bass before the acquisition of the
squid. Well these dixie wrecked boys, went to play some local gigs and
even a bar or two. After a summer off from each other, and a summer of
practicing and improving all of their styles, and an occassional
meeting to pick and practice, the Dixie Wrecked Boys returned to UMASS,
under a new name and all types of new energy, this band was known as
NORTHERN AGGRESSION, and that is where they stand today, on a mission
to play as many gigs as possible concquer the western mass area and
spread their name to every last person.
Silas Lowe~Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin
Silas
lowe was spawned from cavemen and has been along for all of time, they
taught him how to play mandolin on a bone with four sabretooth tiger
hairs as strings. He then embarked on a vigorous journey to the top of
mount olympus where Zeus gave him a guitar, and this is where he stands
today, playing guitar and every once in a while gracing us
with his mandolin presemce. He hails from CT, and has been known
to steal goats from the local farms. Silas formed Northern Aggression
along with Mike Hoffmann, and White Tony in the halls of baker,
although it never really came together until we met the Reverend...
The Reverend Zac Johnson ~ Vocals, Fiddle, Mandolin, Kazoo, and a little guitar
There
is nothing the reverend Zac Johnson cannot play, no instrument, there
is nothing he cant do. It has been stated that this native of
Northfield, MA, came to being by simply emerging from the stars, and if
you have a discussion with him youll know what we are talking about. He
made himself a house, bed, table, and a life out of scratch, there is
nothing he cant widdle or make. His fiddle playing is an ecclectic
blend of Pete Schampfel(Holy Modal Rounders), Richard Greene, and the
musical stylings the moon makes. He is currently working on
putting the final touches on Northern Aggression brand moonshine
Copyright Rev Johnson. He joined Northern Aggression last year out of
pitty for our lack of astrological knowledge and Native American myths.
Then, after being ordained as an official reverend threatened to quit
for god, but the stars told him to stay, and the Rev, always listens to
the stars...
Hoffmannia
67 aka 33 aka Mike Hoffmann~Mandolin, Some Guitar and Banjo, and a Lil
Washboard, hes been known to play a fiddle or two as well
Mike Hoffmann is from Culver Gap, in Northwestern Sussex County New Jersey. He enjoys driving, fishing, watching cheesy movies, and being honest. His musical influences are Agim Colaku, the Lawlor family, Frank Wakefield, Jeff Ament, and Anthony Willie.
Anthony "White Tony" Pasquarosa ~Vocals, Banjo, some Guitar but hardly never
White
Tony, was simply an altar ego and came into full being and overtook his
body, now whenever he straps on a banjo its like a new person emerges.
He hails from the streets of Franklin, MA, where his curveball, and
Franklin Pizza and Deli are the only releases he knows. He knows how to
play Clawhammer and Three finger. He has claimed that Northern
Aggression will take on the world and Society so quick that even Chinas
Communist government cant hold it down. He shares the same birthday
with the Squid, and they share the same outlook on life.
Dave Gagnon aka The Squid~ Bass Fiddle
Dave
"The Squid" Gagnon was spawned 7/22/82, in the Pioneer Valley of
Western Massachussetts. After incubating for several years he picked up
the bass guitar at the age of 10, under the teachings of his father, a
bassist himself. At the age of 19 he was presented with a bass
fiddle for noel, practiced for six months and joined the University of
Massachussetts Amherst Orchestra. Having studied with professor
Salvatire Macchic for two years, this educated squid is going to play
some bow solos that will make the best washtub bass player drown
himself at the bottom of a bottle of the Rev Zacs elderberry moonshine.
