North Hammington Model Railway

A Modern Image Layout With a Hint Of Steam

What's New

30 January 2008

Right I am sorry for any readers of my site but I just couldn't be bothered to update the site till now as I haven't worked on the layout much but have made some progress which includes a removable hinged section to carry the mainlines on so locos don't have to always go through the hidden sidings also the second incline will attach to the removable hinged sections, also the section of upper level it attaches to now hinges up to get to the tracks below and now has increased the upper level to 103mm high so new 9 mm ply boards have been bought for the rest of the upper level.

Also now I have a new track plan for the upper level which I will upload to
My Fotopic site site which also has the progress I have made on there.

8 July 2006

With my account being limited to 100 files and I can't afford to up grade my account I have redesigned the layout of my photos so I have put a few of each stage of the layout but I haven't posted the photos for the track laying stage again but will soon,as I need to take some better pics of some areas of the layout and as soon as they are done they will be on here for you all to see.

2 July 2006

I have added more photos of the progress of my new layout which has been rather slow progress with this hot weather but I am limited to 100 files as a free account holder so for more photos of my progress please look at
My Fotopic site because I will be adding a Tools page soon,so I will need to add photos for the tools and need the file space that is left for them and I have also bought more Peco Flexi track and a pair of Xuron cutters and some other bits and bobs.

The progress I have made on the layout is the other cut-out on the other side of the layout which still needs the removable board making for it and I have extended the fiddle yard around the bottom of the layout to increase it for more storage space for Locos and Rolling Stock,I have also filled the gap in that I had in the incline up to the upper level but the first part still needs fixing in place and I have also increased the upper level height to 100mm from 80mm.

22 May 2006

Sorry for the lack of updates on my layout as i have been helping around the house for my mum and not had time to update the website but work on the layout has been slow but have managed to get the fiddle yard down and have two complete loops around the layout and had trains running,I have also added photos of the layout construction from the beginning to present day and they are all clickable also I have redesigned the track plan and will post it on the website but the fiddle yard remains the same but an extra line has been added to it and i have moved the incline over 6 inches to allow more room for the new station on the lower level.

On the new track plan I have two stations the lower level one is a country station and the upper is the town station the diesel depot and steam sheds have been moved to the upper level and I have added a 8ft Viaduct and two small bridges that go over the lower two tracks,I have changed the return incline to a single lines to make way for the extra line in the fiddle yard the upper station has three platforms and and the station sits above them like at Crewe train station.

14 February 2006

Sorry for the big gap in updates but there has been not much happening due to cold weather and I have been helping my mum more as she had a Operation in December so I have been helping her out more and not been able to work on the layout, but I have some news that the latest and more up to date track plan has been added to the site and I have been buying things needed for the layout ready for when I start this weekend.

15 November 2005

Over the weekend and up to today I have been busy building the last of the baseboards and only need to put the ply sheeting on the last framework which will be tomorrow afternoon and make the 4ft x 5" baseboard that attaches to the 6x4 baseboard, photos have been added to
My Fotopic site and I hope to have some trains running by the weekend.

10 November 2005

Right the layout has been moved up to the loft the two 6x4 sections have erected in the loft also the 6x3 section as been connected to the first 6x4 and today I have got two of the back baseboard built and in place but due the first being from the layout when it was in the bedroom,so now I need to remove about 5mm of the thickness of the legs a the top so the other baseboard butts tight up to the first one.To see photos of it's new home and the new baseboards click here
My Fotopic site.

27 October 2005

Some very very good news about my big layout I no longer have to wait now till Feb as it will now be going into the loft as we have cleared it all out of the rubbish and junk,so now I can make it much much more longer like 20ft long but only 6ft wide also the smaller layout is not gonna be built as I can carry on with my main layout in the loft.

A few things need to be sorted still like boarding the rest of the roof up and board all the sides up to keep the dust out, lights have already been fitted which was 8 yrs ago electrics will be supplied by a extension cable from my bedroom as we haven't got any sockets wired up there but maybe in the future.

So keep checking for more updates at the weeks go on.

27 September 2005

Sorry for the big gap in information on my layout but not much has happened to it but here's the latest.

Layout has been dismantled as of last week as I am having a 18ftx10ft 4" shed built in our back garden to house my layout and also my sister has come home for good and while I wait to save money for the shed,I have decided with a friends help to build a 14ft sectional layout to run my trains on which is split in to a 8ftx20" country scene and a 6ftx20" station scene and then it will be connected to my main layout when moved into the shed.

28 April 2005

Right the two 6x4 Baseboards from the old layout are being used for the new layout as to the one that connects to one of the 6ftx4ft boards which have been moved into the room and setup, but I need to build two new baseboards one is 6ftx3ft and the other one is 4ft 1" x  2ft 6" I have bought the timber to build the 6x3 board but won't be built till Monday as I will be away for the weekend so I will be back fresh and ready to start the building for photos of the new track plan please go to
My Fotopic site.

20 April 2005

The layout I was building had to be dismantled due me having problems with the room I was sleeping in being to small for the stuff I had in there so I moved back into the other room and I have now started a new layout the room size for the layout is 14ftx7ft 5"x 6ft which is a better room for layout but I wish I had done it sooner than spending a lot of time build the other layout, the layout is still gonna be a two level layout with long station on the lower level with a small station on the upper level there is also a diesel depot plus a turntable leading to a few engine sheds.
