New Playground Facility for Anastasia State Park

The Park has three playground areas; two located in the campsite sections and one is near the beach access area adjacent to the Sea Turtle Pavilion.

This is a popular area for day visitors who come to enjoy the beach or have a family picnic.

As you can see from the photo above, the facilities are limited to a swing set and a standing swing which works something like a see-saw.

The proposed playground will occupy the same area but have state-of-the-art playground equipment that is designed to delight youngsters between the ages of two and twelve.

Friends of Anastasia, a Citizens Support Organization, is working to raise the funds to complete the playground renovation.

The regulations covering such a project are quite demanding in that safety issues and compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines must be met.

A successful outcome requires good planning. Friends of Anastasia Board Member Linda Devlin, explored a list of possible suppliers and selected the Miracle Recreation Company for the project. A proposed budget and list of the desired components was created and the image to the left shows the planned facility.

The color green was chosen so as to fit in with the park's predominant color and the yellow fish is appropriate to a seaside location.

There are a number of components like Rock Climber Ramps, Lookout Tower, and Slides to capture the imaginations of the youngsters and help them to develop their physical skills.

Now the task ahead is to raise the $35,000 to make the dream a reality. We are counting on local businesses, area citizens, and visitors to the park to join in. There are donation boxes at the Playground Site, and in the Island Beach Shop & Grill.

There are a number of ways to offer support for the project. Businesses and Individuals can select a component of the playground to sponsor and will have a placard placed on it with their name.
(See the Individual Components Page) The playground area will be surrounded with paving stones and these can be engraved with the donor's name.

Also, you can make a donation using an: E-Form for online submission or download a
Mail-in Form for sending it by regular mail. In addition, you can now use PayPal to make a donation using your PayPal account or credit card. Any of those methods can be used for making a donation to the Playground Fund; and, if you are not already a member of Friends, those forms can also include your membership application.
