Monday 25 April 2005 Day 3

We left Canberra at 10am and travelled to Wollongong. Got to a small town called Robertson and had a lunch break. Noticed quite a few bikes in the area, didn’t think too much about it, thought that because it was a short distance from Wollongong it would make for a nice country ride. Left Robertson and realised why there were so many bikes – winding roads! Beautiful scenery, lovely forests and huge tree ferns. Towing a trailer down mountains with 15kph corners and brake lights that were playing up isn’t ideal.

Reached Wollongong at 2pm, checked into the Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort and set up the new tent, it goes up quite quickly.

We went for a walk along the beach; it’s a lovely clean beach with a wide stretch of pale sand and views of Wollongong city. Several large ships were anchored off the coast.

After our walk we went for a swim in the resort’s heated swimming pool, the ocean was too cold for swimming, then headed out to find a supermarket to buy some food.

Tuesday 26 April 2005 Day 4

Got the brake lights fixed at Frasers Harley Davidson, Wollongong. The mechanic suggested that Kiama would be a good place to go for a ride.

We headed south from town following the tourist drive signs, travelling past steel mills and many factories. Kiama is a very tourist oriented town with many galleries and restaurants. Had lunch at Kiama then headed back to Wollongong stopping at Magnum Motorcycles, a shop we had seen the website of many times when looking for a bike to buy.

Back at the caravan park we went for a walk along the beach again and then headed over for another swim in the pool. The pool was filled with kids having swimming lessons so we changed our minds.

Tomorrow we’ll head further north.  Hopefully the traffic in Sydney won’t be too bad.
