Wednesday 14 December 2005 Day 237

Another leisurely pack up today, we didn’t have far to travel, 100km to Port Pirie.

We arrived at Port Pirie at 10.30 and found Colin & Desley’s house easily. We met Colin & Desley when we stayed next to them at the caravan park in Townsville and they’ve invited us to stay with them for a couple of days at Port Pirie.

There was no car in the driveway, so after ringing the doorbell and getting no answer we gave them a phone call. They were about halfway from Broken Hill to Port Pirie and it was lucky that we got through on the phone just at a time when they were driving through a town and had mobile service.

We had a couple of hours to fill so we went and had a look around the town and had some lunch. We arrived back at the house just as Colin & Desley arrived.

After we all got settled in we spent the afternoon catching up and in the evening went out for a drive to look at the Christmas lights.

Thursday 15 December 2005 Day 238

Colin & Desley took us out for a bit of a look around the Port Pirie area today. We drove to nearby town, Port Germaine and had a look around. From there we went to Weeroona Island and met friends of theirs, Stan & Diana. The island is a lovely spot not far from Port Pirie and nearly every property on it has wonderful views. Stan & Diana’s home has great views of Port Pirie, Port Germaine and far across the water they can see Whyalla.

In the afternoon we drove around Port Pirie and looked at some of the properties that Colin & Desley had contemplated buying when they bought the property they have now. There were some bargain properties to be had a few years ago.

We were going to go out in Colin’s boat today but the seas are too choppy. Colin & Desley are both keen on fishing.

Just as well we’re not staying in a tent, it poured down with rain this afternoon, a real wild thunderstorm, thunder, lightning and pouring rain, it went for quite a while, I hope it’s all finished with as tomorrow we are moving on.

Bluey and Janette, some more friends of Colin & Desley came over for dinner. We spent a pleasant evening sitting around talking.

We’ve enjoyed having a relaxing time and catching up with friends.

Friday 16 December 2005 Day 239

It was well into the morning by the time we left Port Pirie. No packing up of tent today, but Tony did take Desley for a ride on the bike before we left, she was grinning from ear to ear afterwards. Desley has a bike licence but hasn’t been for a ride for years.

It was really nice seeing Colin & Desley again and they made us feel really welcome.

We had a bit of trouble finding the caravan park so we rang them for directions which weren’t much help. We pulled over at a park to check the map and asked someone for directions, he said that he was going that way and we could follow him. It was mid afternoon when we arrived at Brownhill Caravan Park.

After getting the tent set up we went out and had a very late lunch.
