Tuesday 3 May 2005 Day 11

We packed the trailer at a leisurely pace because we had to wait at South Ballina until the mail arrived. Sally & Bob had forwarded our mail on for us on Friday, it arrived about 1pm and we set off for the Gold Coast once we received it. The South Ballina Beach Holiday Park had been a nice friendly park with a great atmosphere at a very good price of $16 per night for a powered site.

We rode through Tweed Heads and Coolangatta on our way, hoping to come across a border sign and take a photo. We managed to arrive in Queensland without even knowing it; we never saw any sign of a border.

Harley Davidson has a contest that is called the ABC’s of touring. I have to take a photo of Tony, his bike and the Harley magazine the Enthusiast or Hog Tales at towns starting with every letter from the alphabet. There are bonus points for all of the above at borders.

We arrived at the Gold Cast Holiday Park after a bit of running around, they’d changed the name since the RACV guide was published. The park is just across the highway from Movie World, so we won’t have any trouble finding that. It’s another park where you need a key to access the amenities.

We couldn’t get any TV reception at all at this park, but the internet reception on our laptop is great. There is a constant hum of traffic on the highway.

Wednesday 4 May 2005 Day 12

I woke up at 5am with the noise of the highway but managed to go back to sleep till 7am.

We travelled down the highway to Nerang McDonalds and met up with some Gold Coast Ulyssians. We stayed and chatted with them for a while before heading further south, I wanted to get my border photos.

We stayed on the highway this time instead of going through Tweed heads and Coolangatta and we did find the border. Got the welcome to NSW signs then turned around and got the welcome to Queensland signs.

We then rode to Currumbin Waters and visited with Fay and Ken Hughes, Fay is an aunt of mine. It was nice to catch up and have a chat; it’s been quite a few years since the last time we were on the Gold Coast and caught up with them.

After our visit we rode to Southport and had a look around the shops, there’s not a lot to do around the Gold Coast on a rainy day. We bought a new TV antenna to see if it would improve reception.

Back at the caravan park we tried out the new antenna, no luck, looks like another early night.

Thursday 5 May 2005 Day 13

Today we went to Movie World. Unfortunately it was another wet day; it’s rained every day since we’ve been on the Gold Coast. But a bit of rain wasn’t going to stop us. It did however stop half the shows at Movie World “Due to inclement weather the parade has been cancelled”. We’d paid our money to get into Movie World and were determined to enjoy the day. We went on the Batman ride twice; we knew that one from the last time we were there. We also went on the Road Runner Roller Coaster. We walked past the Scooby Doo ride several times, we read the warning signs that you shouldn’t go on the ride if you had heart problems and a whole string of other ailments and conditions. How scary could it be? They surely couldn’t fit much of a ride into that small building. Well they did, there were twists and turns and drops at great speed. It was the most adventurous ride I’ve ever been on.
