Saturday 24 December 2005 Day 247

Last night’s weather was wild, wind, rain, thunder and lightning, we heard on the news tonight that it caused a lot of damage throughout the region.

We packed up the tent for the last time, for a while at least. Today we travelled less than 200km to Ballarat. We’re staying overnight in a motel, a Christmas treat! Tomorrow we’re going to surprise the family by turning up for Christmas lunch. Everyone thinks that we’re still in Adelaide.

When we got to Ballarat we went to visit some family friends, Betty and Frank. Betty’s son, Tony, came over to see us while we were there. The bike with the trailer behind it caused a bit of interest in the neighbourhood with one person stopping his car to take a photo.

We had a bit of a look around the mall in town and then spent the evening in the motel, we’ve got a real tele and it even has Austar.

We’re looking forward to surprising everyone tomorrow!

Sunday 25 December 2005 Day 248

We left Ballarat about 9.30am, we didn’t want to arrive in Melbourne too early, we wanted to get there after everyone was at my sister’s. We quietly, well as quietly as you can on a Harley, rode past the end of my sister’s street to see if all the cars were there. Mum and Dad weren’t there so we went to visit a mate who lives nearby.

We got a text message from Benjamin, our son, we’d been seen! We told him not to mention to anyone that we were home, we wanted to surprise them.

When we got to my sisters, Gail came running our when she heard the bike. Everyone was pleased to see us, they all said “We knew you’d come home for Christmas!”

We spent the day catching up with my family, showing them a lot of the photos from our trip.

At about 7pm we went to Tony’s dad’s house, he was really surprised and pleased to see us.
