The mighty "Gameboy".
The handheld system that would dominate the games world for the next 15 years was launched in the Spring of 1989. Nintendo had wanted to combine their two previous successes, the "Game and Watch" series and the "Nintendo Entertainment System", the NES. The Game and Watch machines could only handle one game at a time, and Nintendo wanted to develop a kind of portable NES.

Tetris
One of the most succesful and addictive games of all time. Tetris helped make the Gameboy into what it is. The game is a very simple idea. It consists of arranging falling blocks of various different sizes into lines, which then disappear. Tetris was actually programmed and designed in Moscow, Russia. Although Tetris was npt particularly advanced graphically for the time, it overcame this by being a pure gaming experience.
