In the beginning there was a god called Shigeru Miyamoto. He created three other gods: Link, Mario, and Donkey Kong. But these gods seperated and two of them clashed; These two were Donkey Kong and Mario.
Donkey Kong captured Mario's girlfriend Pauline, and Mario, being the heroic type, sought to reclaim his love. Donkey Kong and Mario battled for a long time until Mario finally triumphed. But Donkey Kong and Mario soon forgot about their quarrel and became allies.
As this was happening, Link was off fighting an evil man called Ganondorf in a land called Hyrule. And he was winning. Link thrust his sword into Ganondorf's heart of pure evil, and Ganondorf became an all powerful creature called Ganon. Link and his wife to be, Zelda, ran out of Hyrule castle as Ganon was destroying it. Link, with the help of Zelda, beat Ganon, and with his dying words, Ganon vowed to get Link and Zelda or even their children someday, then he passed away.
At first Shigeru only planned for them to be heroes, so dropped their "god" status and became heroes. They saved their own worlds, and even though Mario and Donkey Kong did clash, they were both heroes in the end.
Mario went and created a kingdom called the Mushroom Kingdom, but an evil turtle-like creature called Bowser kidnapped Mario's new ladyfriend, Princess Toadstool, agian and again and to this day there is an ongoing struggle to stop him. Link had kids with Zelda and they have both passed away, but their children have lived on and had more children and have led their race, the Hylians, into battle against Ganon in a great war. But that...is another story.
