Chris and Kaycee earned their way to state by placing between 1st and 6th in five separate TFA regional tournaments this year. Making the state meet is incredibly difficult in and of itself! At the state meet they they did not disappoint and made it all the way into the semi-final round out of 72 other teams. This means they finished among the top 18 duet teams in the state of
2007 – 2008 year! Chris also made the state meet with his Humorous Interpretation scene and placed into the quarter finals eventually placing among the top 24 in the state of
Congratulations to Chris, Kaycee, and the whole Speech/Debate team for a fine season!
Nimitz Speech/Debate interp participants finished the fall with three tournaments. The first at Keller Fosil Ridge right before Thanksgiving break, and the second at Coppell, and the final one at the very tough 45 team tournament at Plano Senior High the weekend of Dec. 14th-15th. Stephanie Stockton led the team at Keller by winning the DI event in which over 40 participants were entered. Stephanie's hard work and never quit attitiude paid off in a big way! The team came to it's feet to cheer for their senior leader when her victory was announced! Way to go Stephanie!
At Plano Sr. High, the team of ten participating students was joined by twenty freshmen and sophomores who came to observe and learn what this competition thing was all about. They did not disappoint as six entries broke into the semi finals and Chris Ramirez once again made it to finals with his HI entry. With a strong 3rd place finish among the 45+ entries in the HI category, Chris has now earned his way to State! Chris is the first Nimitz Viking to earn his way to state in many, many years! Other students breaking into semi's included: Joe Morrel, Natalie Bennet, Kaycee Reininger, Paul Castilleja, and Brooke Anderson. The team is very determined to have more students join Chris on the way to State during our final month of competition in January!
Nimitz HS Speech & Debate team proves it's metal at the Hockaday School Tournament Nov. 9th & 10th.

The Nimitz Speech/Debate team took ten competitors to the Mansfield "Monster Mash" tournament on Saturday Oct. 27th. The team showed very well against thirty other teams from around the metroplex, including power house schools; Southlake Carroll, Denton Ryan, and Creekview. The team was lead by JP Zavala and Chris Ramirez who advanced in the Humorous Interpretation catagory. The day ended in dramatic fashion with Chris Ramirez being crowned champion and bringing home the first place trophy for his Humorous Interp piece in his first competion of the year..... way to go Chris!!! Mr. Hermans and Ms. Cowen were very proud of the group and felt confident that many more trophies were on their way to Nimitz by the end of the year. Way to go team!!!
Summer Camp #3 (Creekview two-week workshop) July 9th to 21st
Six Nimitz students attended a prestigious two-week long summer interp camp at Creekview HS. Kaycee Reininger, Chris Ramirez, Brook Anderson, Joe Morrel, Celeste Martinez, and Taylor Ellis were blessed to be taught by some of Texas finest high school and college acting teachers. Demond Wilson led the workshop but was also joined by a staff of 5 other teachers including Professor Kelly Russell from the University of Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Our group, along with about 40 other students from North Texas prepared and rehearsed two interp peices while learning more about the craft of acting. The camp concluded on Saturday the 21st with a competition in which all participants competed against one another with the pieces they had prepared. We are very proud of this committed group of students and look forward to the leadership they will provide the rest of our students with the knowledge and experience they gained from this workshop!
Summer Workshop #2 (Upperclassmen) June 21st to 23rd
Mr. Demond Wilson from "The Perfect Performance", led a wonderful three day camp for 17 upperclassmen. The group each received two pieces for competition. Over the last two days of the camp, they focused on duets and duo work and made great progress toward preparing these pieces for competition. Both Mr. Hermans and Mr. Stone assisted Demond and helped him to challenge everyone to take it a step higher. There is no doubt that we have many scenes that will be capable of not only competing but battling in the finals for the top six spots at every tournament we attend. Some of the students definately need to set a goal of making it to the Texas State Forensics tournament in May and Nationals during the summer of 2008. The journey will begin at Grapevine HS where the first tournament will be hosted on September 8th and 9th. Ms. Cowen plans to take the team to 8 TFA tournaments while also leading the charge as Nimitz host the year's final DFW tournament in early February. Everyone will need to work that tournament as the turnout is expected to be huge!
Summer Workshop #1 (Freshmen) June 18th & 19th
The first camp session has been a huge success with all 18 scheduled students attending. Our guest artist Jordon Williams has been a great teacher and is already instilling, in a very practical way, the principals of acting that we strive to put into practice during our work at Nimitz! Mr. Williams has expressed on numerous occasions how lucky these students are to be at a camp like this as freshmen. Mr. Hermans, Ms. Cowen, and Mr. Stone and Jordon's wife Keisha, have all aided Mr. Williams at the workshop. It is very obvious that we have an eager group of incoming freshmen who love the theatre, and will do wonderful things over the next four years! A special thank you to all of our parents for helping these kids be a part of this special camp!
The Nimitz High School Thespian Troupe #280 held their annual Banquet on Monday May 14th. The event was held at The Magic Time Machine in Addison.
