[ Stupidest Team Name ]
The Sportz Assassin recently dropped a list of stupid team names based on the ridiculous "cities" they're supposed to represent. For once the Warriors actually ranked high on a greatest hits list. Coming at you with the #2 stupidest name; the Golden State Warriors. We say, whatever! Let them think what they want! Heres what they said.
"This one makes no sense. Why not the "Oakland Warriors"?? Why "Golden State"?? I know it's the state nickname...but you are one of FOUR NBA teams in the state. And you suck....even with the Clippers and Kings there. And if any NBA team would claim to be the state's team....it would be the Lakers. Also, I was for the Raiders being named this so they could split games in Oakland and Los Angeles."
Somehow, I don't think a name makes us suck!! GO GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS!
[ 12 Years ]
A dozen years. 12 long excruciating years since the Golden State Warriors made the playoffs. The hiring of Don Nelson is perhaps the best move the Warriors could have made this offseason to end that streak. Nellie was the coach the last time the Golden State Warriors made the playoffs, and hopefully that comes full circle and he is the coach again when the Warriors make the playoffs. But in between the time that Nellie stepped down in the '94-'95 season until last year's heartbreaking '05-'06 disaster, there were many, many, many coaches that have come and gone. What's a common characteristic of losing franchises? The hiring and firing of many coaches.

[ Golden State Robberies ]
ESPN.com has a fun little poll on the Greatest Trade Robberies to hype up a forthcoming show on ESPN Classic aka the only ESPN channel you can catch a Warriors' playoff game! As expected the Warriors are on the poll. The Warriors have been robbed, but they've also done a little theft themselves:
• Wilt "Kobe plus 19" Chamberlain to the Dubs instead of the Kansas City Kings because the Philly Warriors had his territorial rights
• Robert Parish and Kevin McHale for Joe Barry Carroll and Rickey Brown in the ultimate what-could-have-been pillage of the Warriors
Two other Bay Area squads did some robbing as well:
• The A's picked up the greatest closer of all time Dennis Eckersley for three players who never made the majors
• The 49ers traded up in the 198
4 draft to select the greatest football player of all time Jerry Rice
I'm too young to remember what Warriors Nation thought about the Joe Barry Carroll trade back in 1980. Was the Bay Area excited about the trade? Were the fans and local media in agreement with the organization?
