Why modern image? I wanted something different that would stand out, and to build a model of how narrow gauge might look in the UK or Germany, if the technology had continued to develop, and had taken advantage of intermodal transport systems and things like mini-containers, heavy duty transporter wagons, or freight DMU's.
I'll try and build up links to both model railway sites, and prototype sites, especially those related to modern narrow gauge so it is clear to see where these ideas are coming from. I'm trying to make sure that I don't just build fantasy models, but that there will be a logical reason, and a prototype somewhere that shows the principles I'm using.
I'm on a very tight budget, partly out of necessity, and partly because
I want to show that you can make a model without buying high-priced
stuff. To this end I'll be scrounging and recycling a lot, and I'll
pass on any experiences and successes or failures in the budget
modelling section as I go along...
