That's right, 12 April 2008 will be the 25th anniversary of Army Aviation Branch.
Army Aviation started much before 1983, however aviators did not have their own branch within the U.S. Army until then.
Aviators were associated with another area of the Army, for instance, a communications officer could become a pilot and still maintain his original branch, continue his duties as a communications officer while performing the duties of a pilot as well.
Here in the Fort Rucker area, we are proud of what Soldiers are doing to defend our country. We want to celebrate with them, the establishment anniversary of their branch.
In doing this WD4ROJ (Enterprise Amateur Radio Society) will hold a special event station on the 12th of April commemorating the transition.
Work our SES and send a QSL with an SASE, to WD4ROJ c/o Carl Rippe, 21 Old Newton Road, Daleville, AL. 36322.
You will receive a QSL as a reminder of this historic anniversary.
If you are in the local area, there will also be a celebration at FT. Rucker's Outdoor Recreation sponsored by FT. Rucker's Morale Welfare and Recreation. Please come join in the fun.
