A Little About Us

"Isn't there a place where I can really join with other lovers of art, writing, and philosophy, where I can collaborate with kindred spirits, where I can feel like I'm a part of the actual community?"

That was the key question sparking the creation of The New Wasteland Forum. There didn't seem to be any answers readily available, so we, the creators of the site, formed an answer ourselves. After all, if what you crave isn't out there already, you just have to go ahead and make it yourself. The forum is a community designed to be different from all the bloated MySpaces and Gaias of the web, a place  where you mean something more than a few more hits to raise the page ranks.

We have the added bonus of not being owned by Rupert Murdock. (Again, unlike MySpace. Seriously. Look it up.)

The site as a whole is a combination quasi-E-zine, artistic community and forum, and playground for weird experimentation in all the dissolving of borders between creators and created. Art, writing, philosophy, and all manners of off-beat expression abound here. Although it is a work in progress, many people asking the kind of questions mentioned above drift here and find a group willing to accept them. With any luck, you'll be one of those people questioning why most of the web is so dedicated to keeping people at arms reach, and so superficial. You'll find some of the answers you seek here.

News from the

Fringe  of Civilization:

Attention Loyal Readers!

(News provided by Sam Keeper)

April is the cruelest month. So says T.S. Eliot, and so say I, primarily because I rip him off constantly. Just look at this site, for instance. Terrible.

Everything is gone. No joke! Look at the sidebar.

The reason for this is that I've decided to start an experiment. Rather than have set  spaces like the Gallery and the Library, I'm going to start up specific pages for projects that people create. The idea is that if YOU provide the ideas, WE'LL provide the space and community to help you play around with said ideas. This may take some time, of course, to get off the ground, but the changes they are a coming, as the kids say.

What this means for you, oh hypothetical reader, is that now is a good time to join up and start spouting improbable concepts. So, don't hesitate! Creativity is always welcome.

In other news, expect to see some aforementioned projects showing up around here. Yes, believe it or not, The New Wasteland is finally doing what it always said it would! Currently being discussed and thought about are two music projects concocted by Nathaniel and I. One is based around taking Gustav Holst's "The Planets" and putting it to a techno beat. Take it from us, it is hard to make a techno beat from a classical piece in 5:4 time.

Additionally, I have some art projects that I might be starting up. Whether or not they get off the ground remains to be seen.

The Poem for Autumn contest is finally closing, astoundingly enough. Voting has now begun, against all odds. Please vote against me. I'm tired of winning my own contests. It generally looks bad.

Future plans include continued complaints about low activity, possibly another change of color scheme, and mucking about as spring comes around and that hideous rebirth begins.

Shantih, shantih, shantih.
