Column: Horse Sense
Hello, everyone! Writing is something I've always loved; I also love horses -- they
are my passion. I began thinking and realized, I love writing and horses. I
put the two together and... voila! I'm writing (what I love doing)
about horses (what I love). It is a wonderful experience! I've been riding horses for
2 years, but I've loved horses for almost 5 years. Through the summer of 2003 I cared
for a Saddlebred, named Friendly Boy. In September, he left to go to his home in
Arizona with his owner. However, a week before Friendly Boy left, I began leasing a
Quarter Horse mare named C.C. (Cutter Puddin Chick is her registered name.) She, by
the way, was pregnant. Due to her moodiness, as all pregnant female beings are,
we decided to end the lease at the end of the month. So, at that, I began leasing a
beautiful Appaloosa named Cochise. I have been leasing him ever since and am soon
going to be the proud, official owner of him. He and I enjoy English riding, and
jumping (which is our favorite). We are currently at 3 and 1/2 foot jumps. Check out
my column in the upcoming newsletter! If you have any questions about my latest column
or have a question about horses... feel free to e-mail me! My address is
DreamHorse23@hotmail.com.

Column: Behind the Scenes of the Johnson Ranch
Hi, my name is Taylin and I am 13 years old. I have my own horse, who just recently won the Pet of the Year award. His name is Littleman. He is the one, along with my family, who inspired me to write my monthly column. I've always hated writing, but soon learned I could inform others about myself and my family through my written work. I wrote a book in the seventh grade which my family and friends seemed to enjoy. To my surprise, they not only liked it, but also suggested that I had a talent for writing. Here I am, in the 9th grade, still not loving writing as much as I should, but I'm actually writing more columns, books and speeches now than ever before. Last year I won an award for one of the best war reality history papers, and I had received a $100 savings bond and a medal. I also earned the priviledge to attend an award ceremony (where I was presented my award) in San Antonio, Texas, in the Omni hotel, served with fancy food and everything. That's when it was clear to me that God gave me a talent to write. I didn't even think my history paper was that great, but I guess it was. So perhaps now I will move on to something bigger and better. What really inspired me was reading books. I have always loved reading, and the way some things were put into books made me think about my life and all the crazy and cool things that happened to me. So I put these memories in a book, entitled "Littleman and Shay." I am coming out with a second book called "Littleman and Shay II." It is on a different trail, and through my perspective (rather than my horse's). My hobbies are: hunting, fishing, basketball, football, climbing trees, rodeo, horses, and others.
