Freehold Tavern, New Inn (now community centre) and The Lamb (right)

According to Douglas Harvey's "Newhall Long Ago" there were as many as 68 public houses in the village at one time! Although some may have been called public houses these were sometimes not pubs at all, they were off-licenses (allowed to sell alchohol but not to be consumed on the premises). This has spurred me on to discover if Douglas Harvey's statement is true and if so, where all these public houses and off-licenses were and who the people were who lived and worked there.
