What is a Doula?
A Doula is someone, usually a woman, who will assist a couple through their pregnancy, birth and the post natal period, providing informational, physical and emotional support.
The word "Doula' means to mother the mother, woman slave or servant to a woman in labor. It come's from Ancient Greece.
A Doula has no medical role at all- she is there solely for the mother and her partner, to assist you in your journey to parenthood.
As a Doula I aim to make this journey as joyful and smooth as it can be.
That having the support of a Doula can
* A general decrease in the use of pain medication (Narcotics)
* 50% decrease in the need for cesarean delivery
* 25% decrease in total length of labor (In first time mothers)
* 60% decrease in mums asking for an epidural.
* 30% decrease in use of forceps
* 40% decrease in usage of artificial oxytocin
