Pre-Activation Emergency Meeting 23rd August, 2006
Discussion:
The Tobago Disaster Management Committee met at the Fairfield Complex
Conference Room, Bacolet Street, Scarborough, Tobago at 1:30pm on Wednesday
23rd August, 2006. The committee met to determine plans to be implemented
should Tobago be severely affected by Tropical Wave heading in the island's
path. The committee was made-up of the following agencies:
At about 5:15am on Wednesday 23rd August, 2006, this Tropical Wave was located 600km East of Tobago. At about 2:15pm on the same day westward movement was observed to have accelerated causing some thunder storm activity in southern Trinidad with winds of 55km/h recorded at Piarco International Airport.
It was indicated that on the morning of Thursday 24th August 2006, a US Hunter Aircraft would fly into the Tropical wave to determine appropriate measurements and details relating to the weather system. It should be noted that due to the present weather conditions, one should expect cloudy conditions and rain accompanied with gusty winds of 60 to 70 km/h, resulting in street or flash flooding.
Concerns:
Conclusion: The Meteorological Services indicated that the island of Tobago is not under any Tropical Storm Watch, Treat or Warning. The pre-activation process was therefore scaled down. However, emergency agencies were cautioned to remain alert, since weather patterns have been known to change within short time periods.
