Cast of Characters
King of Hearts, Queen of Spades has been an idea floating in my mind ever since I was really young. Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite Disney movies-- I felt that I could relate to Alice because I always longed to live a fantasy as a child. I'm a big fan of the fantasy genre. I wanted to have my wonderland -- and since I was precocious in matters of the heart -- I longed to be able to write the story someday with a romantic twist. After watching Labyrinth (another favorite movie) I knew that I wanted to write a story where the girl would actually fall madly in love with someone like the Goblin King. It's happened a lot of times with romance stories where I want the 'bad guy' to win. However, I felt a little skeptical about combining concepts from various movies to create my story. Would people think me a thief of ideas?
It wasn't until mid chapter of DoA, while I was listening to Buck-Tick's "Tenshi no Revolver" CD, that I said: 'Screw it -- I'm going to write it.' This became a firm ideal while "Alice in Wonder Underground" was playing... and from then the idea has haunted me.
The story will have both its light and dark moments. The King of Hearts will fancy a sword/rapier much like the common illustrations in a card deck. Unlike the weakling we see in the Disney classic-- this King will have courage and a very dark side (or sadistic temper) when things do not go his way. He will have much of the represented insanity of the Queen of Hearts. But, there are many twists to his personality, which will become known as the story progresses. The history within the story -- of the girl he originally fell for -- is extremely dark. I chose the image above as representation of his love turned anger when the girl denies his affections.
And why is she sleeping? Well... wasn't it all a dream? Or was it? And what happened to the actual Queen of Hearts?
