Ned's Corner

Hello! My name is "Nefarious" Ned Huthmacher.

and I would like to welcome you to "Ned's Corner"!

This page has been constructed to showcase my new historical novel,

"One Domingo Morning: The Story Of Alamo Joe".

As an avid Alamo buff for over forty years, it has long intrigued me how
Joe's tale, while a fascinating one, has never yet been explored in book form. But then
' who is Joe?' you may well ask...

From the Preface ... " as the slave of the Alamo's commander, Lt. Colonel William Barrett
Travis, not only was Joe in the Alamo battle, he survived it and left his own documented
account. Notwithstanding, he was not lauded to the skies for his deeds, as was Travis, or
folk heroes Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett.. Joe's reward for his role in the Alamo saga was
to be returned to the bonds of slavery for some time after the smoke of battle had cleared...

While historians may never be able to discover, or agree upon exactly what transpired
within the walls of the Alamo in the chilling pre-dawn hours of March 6, 1836, that Joe
emerged from it a true Texas hero cannot be denied and should not be forgotton ..."

Of Alamo Joe"

One Domingo Morning: The Story of Alamo Joe
By Ned Anthony Huthmacher
Vantage Press, NY 2004
(419 Park Avenue South, NYC, NY 10016)

Alamo survivor, Joe, Travis' slave finally gets a
book-length acknowledgement thanks to Ned Huthmacher.
The author states in his preface: "While historians may
never be able to discover, or agree upon exactly,
what transpired within the walls of the Alamo in the chilling
pre-dawn hours of March 6, 1836, that Joe emerged from
it a true Texas hero cannot be denied and should not be forgotten."

Huthmacher's lively text is full of pathos and humor. Davy
Crockett's story telling session with the children of the Alamo,
for example, is joyously realistic. And characters like Maizy, Silvie
and Ubaldo add a wonderful, earthy touch to the story of the
Texian Revolution.

The book's cover art was created by Joseph Musso. "
