What is National Championship Wrestling?
Simply put, NCW is the future of backyard wrestling. An alliance of
wrestling organizations and wrestlers from around the globe, NCW
promotes and celebrates all styles of backyard wrestling. Battling in
big cities and small towns, in gyms and in basements, NCW superstars
compete for regional titles and respect. Their ultimate goal? To become
the NCW World Backyard Wrestling Champion... the number one person in
the backyard wrestling world.
But NCW is about more than just having matches and making highlight
videos. It's about bringing the backyard wrestling community together
to celebrate what we do. Backyard wrestling is a unique way for young
men and women to be creative, make friends, and just have fun. Instead
of glorifying ultraviolence, NCW emphasizes entertainment and wrestling
ability.
NCW isn't a multi-million dollar company, but an
alliance built on the backs of dedicated wrestlers seeking to bring the
backyard wrestling world closer together.
How can my federation join NCW?
If your federation would like to join NCW, please contact us on the Contact
page with information on the federation and a link to the website, and
we will examine your federation and decide if it may become an NCW
member.
Are there any standards or rules for NCW membership?
In NCW, we believe in the freedom of each federation to, for the most
part, wrestle as they wish. We welcome a variety of different arenas,
rings, and wrestling styles, and we do not believe, as some do, that a
federation must be of quality close to an independent promotion to be
worthwhile. However, there is one thing that is strictly prohibited in
NCW. That is the "deathmatch" type of wrestling (like the style
"popularized" on certain DVDs) and its associated weapons (especially
glass light tubes). The reason for this is that we want NCW to be
different from these federations on these DVDs. We want NCW to be about
wrestling, and to show the world that there is more to backyard
wrestling than people recklessly and needlessly endangering themselves
through such "matches" that basically aren't even wrestling. NCW
completely disapproves of 'ultraviolent' wrestling and will not
promote, glorify, or sanction this behavior.
How do championships work in NCW?
There are three levels of championships in NCW.
1) World titles, available to all of NCW's member federations (members)
around the world. A member is chosen by a vote of NCW's members or by a
random draw to use the title for a few months, after which they vacate
the title and pass it on to the next chosen member. NCW currently has
one World title, the World Backyard Wrestling Title.
2) Regional titles, which work the same way as the World titles, except
they are only available to members in a certain region. For instance,
the United States Title is only available to members within the United
States. NCW currently has three regional titles: the United States
Backyard Wrestling Title, the Canadian Backyard Wrestling Title, and
the European Backyard Wrestling Title.
3) Member titles, which are each completely under the control of
individual members and, unlike the World and regional titles, are not
subject to NCW rules, decisions, or control. For instance, the NCW
Mid-South Heavyweight Title is solely controlled by and defended within
NCW Mid-South. A
member title can be defended at another NCW member's event.
