National Capital Orchestra - Canberra

Program highlights in recent years have included symphonies by Dvorak, Mahler, Shostakovich and Schumann and numerous smaller works by composers ranging from Haydn and Mozart, through to Khachaturian, Stravinsky and Prokofiev. NCO has always endeavoured to take advantage of the wealth of musical talent in Canberra, with many of Canberra's most prominent musicians, as well highly talented young performers playing concertos with us in recent years.  The NCO regularly puts on joint performances with the ANU Choral Society (SCUNA) including most recently the Brahms Requiem on May 24, 2009 and has also collaborated with with other local dance and choral groups, Artsong Canberra and the ANU School of Music.

The NCO has an ongoing relationship with the Smith Family, offering free tickets to Smith Family Learning for Life Scholarship holders and performing at the annual Government House Open Day concert in March each year.

NCO's next concert on August 9 features the Reinecke Flute Concerto, performed by Wendy Quinlan and Mahler's Symphony No 5.

The NCO is always looking to recruit new players so if you are a proficient player of an orchestral instrument and would like the opportunity to perform some of the greatest works of the symphonic repertoire, the NCO would like to hear from you. The current suggested minimum standard for new players is 7th grade AMEB or equivalent.
