  • What is the Marine Mud Challenge (MMC for short) you may be asking yourself?  A mud run is a very challenging and exciting on and off road running competition combined with a variety of obstacles.  This type of event simulates the training US Marines complete on a weekly basis.  Do you think you have what it takes to challenge the Marines???

Why should you sign up? The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and funds for the Marines, Sailors and their families at the Wounded Warrior Barracks at Camp LeJeune, NC as well as supporting the families of local Marines in the Charlotte-area.  YOU WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO MEET SOME OF THESE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN AT THE MMC.  These dedicated and selfless men and women have sacrificed so much for us, both in the US and abroad.

MMC When and Where

When will the MMC be held?  The event will be held on August 2nd, 2008

·                      0700: team captains check-in

·                      0730: opening ceremony, race, course and safety briefings

·                      0800: Race start  (we may hold separate start times for each team category depending on how many teams sign up – we’ll let you know via email if this is the case)

·                      The event should take each team approximately 3 hours to complete based on the number of teams we have heard will sign up.  Your actual time on the course will probably be 45-60 minutes if you’re in shape and not wimpy.

·                      1200: Awards and closing ceremony will take place as soon as all teams have completed the race and results have been tallied.

·                      If we are expecting seriously inclement weather (meaning lighting storms or extremely heavy rains), our back up challenge date is August 2nd – we run no matter what.

Where will the MMC be held?

Belmont Abbey College www.bac.edu

Map of the campus: http://www.bac.edu/assets/pdf/bac-map.pdf

Parking WILL be limited so your team WILL need to carpool!  Park as directed by campus safety officials.  The check-in area in front of buildings 7 and 8.  This is also the location of the start and finish line.

The Mud Pit

Family, friends, media, guests and people without anything better to do will be able to see your team in the mud pit by taking exit 27 (Hwy 273) off of highway 85.  At the top of the exit ramp turn to the north and you’ll see the mud pit area on the left side of hwy 273.  Parking there is even tighter – you may need to park across the street.  Please be careful cross 273 as it is very busy.  We can’t say what time you’ll be in the pit as that is up to you and your potential speediness.  We should have snacks and drinks available for purchase at the pit along with a couple of port-a-jons.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be available for competitors.  Family and friends are welcome to visit the Holy Grounds Café for food, snacks, etc.
