Tang Soo Do, "The Way of the China Hand" is a Korean style of Karate. Tang Soo Do was founded in 1945 by Grandmaster Hwang Kee. Grandmaster Hwang Kee formed Tang Soo Do by combining Soo Bahk Do (Korea's original Martial Art) with several other Chinese Martial Arts. Therefore, Tang Soo Do is a composite Martial Arts Style (60% Soo Bahk Do, 30% Northern Chinese and 10% Southern Chinese). This combination provides a Martial Art that is graceful, beautiful, powerful, and extremely effective in self-defense situations.
Tang Soo Do is studied not to injure an enemy, but instead to develop a person who is more advanced in mental and physical aspects of life. Tang Soo Do is a concept, based on various nature principles of Oriental Philosophy, which emphasizes peace and happiness for all mankind.
