Arrival Information - Update

MAIN PARTY ON TIME.  ADVANCED PARTY DELAYED.

After the thunderstorms of yesterday we have managed to get a sunny morning to dry the flooded tents, but do expect the Scouts' kit to be very wet. The rain was so heavy that a torrent ran through the campsite but we were just about ready and kept the worst of it out.  The marquee and mess tent did become a lake on Tuesday and Wednesday - everyone was very muddy and damp.

The Scouts and Explorers worked very well this morning and last night despite the sickness bug making a reappearance on the Explorer site and taking out two of the leaders and several of the Explorers.  The kit was packed and went onto the lorry in good time.  Our closing ceremony started about 1pm and we were ready to get on the coaches to Arnhem which arrived at 2pm.

We left Arnhem ahead of time and arrived in Brussels very early. However the Eurostar was not able to give us an earlier train and so we will be sticking to schedule for the arrival of the main party.  The Eurostar leaves Brussells at 8.25pm and arrives in Waterloo at 9.56pm. We will then be on the 10.23pm from Waterloo which is due to arrive in Surbiton at 10.40pm.  Please ensure that you collect the Scouts' passport and EHIC card from the leaders and have them ticked as collected before you go.

The advance party vehicles left ahead of schedule, but were slowed by torrential rain.  They arrived at Calais to find that the ferries have been delayed by strong winds and they are 45 minutes late loading.  So at the moment they will not be back at Ajax HQ until about 1am.  They have a number of bags belonging to those who are going on holiday tomorrow or Saturday.  They can be picked up from Ajax HQ, Ditton Reach (off the Portsmouth Rd) from 1am.  Sorry for the lateness of the hour but it is unavoidable!

Further information is available from the Home Contacts.

Getting ready to go

After yesterday's long hikes we are now having a day at the closing ceremonies and on the water before packing up tonight ready for the lorry tomorrow morning.  We finish tonight with a floodlit parade of boats.

The sickness bug that swept the campsite is now passed and everyone is well.  The hot weather has given way to thunderstorms and showers, but it is still warm enough.

We are on schedule for a return as advertised but will try to post tomorrow when we are en route.

More has been added

More has been added to the camp report. I have been rather busy on camp, so I have finally managed to update the report.

Thanks to all the parents that have left messages: the kids loving being able to hear the news from home.

I am having a few issues uploading the photos from camp, I will try again tommorow. I have taken quite a few photos and will make them available after camp.  We have a few more on the Photos page - some more embarrassing than others...

Half Way Through - Cooling Down

The extreme heat is now passing and the stomach bugs too, hopefully.  We seem to be getting in the clear now.  Check out the weather forecast on the news page.

Check out the guest book for new messages.

See the reports about us from the Nawaka newspaper and one of the Nawaka Videos!

And plenty more photos - we have been busy!  See you at the end of the week!

Hot, Hot, Hot!

We think that the hottest day (36'C) is now past and some cooling showers may be on the way.

Have a look at the new photos and the Camp Report pages.

Internet access was down yesterday - but hopefully the Scouts will have access to the guestbook today.  We did manage to download the guestbook onto the laptop so all your messages can be read: it is just more difficult for us to post replies than we thought.   Mind you, we are in the middle of a sandy field next to a lake in the middle of nowhere, so any Internet access is pretty incredible!

All is going well - no major problems or injuries - a touch of occasional stomach upset or sickness, but all are in good spirits.

WE ARE ALL HAVING GREAT FUN - WATER, SAND AND SUN - WHAT ELSE COULD YOU WANT!

Hello from Camp

First an apology, it has taken me some time to get down to the computer room, as you can imagine we have been rather busy. We have started the camp report ( see camp report page) this will be updated as often as I can get down here, I will try every day but we may miss a couple as we have a full programme.

Its good to see your messages, the wonders of technology. we will incorporate a session down here hopefully tommorow (thurs) for the scouts to leave messages back. I promise they are still thinking of you all, but not missing you that much as they are having too much fun.

have a look at the photo page there will be more coming.

Richard Beddingfield.
