Mooncup

The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup around two inches long and made from soft medical grade silicon. The benefits of the Mooncup are simply too essential to ignore as it has been designed with the priorities of women and our times in mind. No sacrifice in comfort, health and convenience have to be made in order to choose this eco-sustainable product.

The Mooncup is comfortable! The soft material of the Mooncup is smooth and malleable, responding to the changing positions of the wearer. These factors make the Mooncup easy to insert (no dry fibrous texture as with tampons) and once inserted correctly, it is extremely comfortable.

Using the Mooncup menstrual cup

• Find a comfortable sitting, standing, squatting or
kneeling position. Relax and take your time.

• Press the sides of the Mooncup menstrual cup
together and then fold in half again.

• Hold the folded sides firmly together between
thumb and forefinger of one hand. The single
curved edge should be away from your palm.

• Stay relaxed. With your free hand gently
separate the labia and push the curved edge
of the folded Mooncup menstrual cup up into the vagina.

• Insert the Mooncup menstrual cup fully following
the natural angle of your vagina. Aim towards the
small of your back, not the top of your head.
You do not need to push the Mooncup menstrual
cup up high into the vagina, the vaginal muscle
will keep it in place.

• Once the Mooncup menstrual cup is fully inserted
grasp the base of the cup, not the stem, and rotate
it once to ensure that it has fully unfolded.
Most women find that the stem is too long.
You will need to remove the Mooncup menstrual
cup and cut the stem to your own requirements.
It is important to keep your Mooncup clean.
Wash it regularly with mild soap and hot water.
It can be cleaned more thoroughly between periods.
Please read the Usage Guide carefully before
using your Mooncup menstrual cup for the first time.

"I received my Mooncup on Monday and my period started on Tuesday, so I was able to try it out right away. It's awesome! I was intimidated about getting it in place properly, but I successfully inserted it on the first try. I already love it. Great product. I plan to recommend it far and wide. Thanks!"

- Safer - Greener - Cheaper -

The Mooncup is healthy! It is worn internally like a tampon but collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing: this is essential in maintaining the natural moisture and balance of the vaginal environment. Medical grade silicon is substance which is hypo-allergenic and inert, causing no reaction or allergies in the body whatsoever.

The Mooncup is green and sustainable! Unlike tampons the Mooncup is not a disposable product, so you only need to buy one. The average woman uses 10-12000 pads or tampons in her lifetime, to the great detriment of the environment and healthy plumbing systems. One Mooncup lasts for ten years making it the cheapest menstrual product on the market. The once-off investment in a sustainable product will save you 10 times what you would have spent on disposables.

The Mooncup is convenient! The Mooncup has a high capacity, holding 30ml of fluid, which is roughly one third of the average fluid released during each period. A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls allowing your menstrual fluid to pass into the Mooncup without leakage or odour. The Mooncup is removed 2- 4 times per day (on average) and is simply emptied, rinsed and re-inserted. You will probably find that you need to empty your Mooncup less frequently than you currently replace towels or tampons. The Mooncup is ideal for exercise traveling and sleep alike. In between periods just boil in water for 5 minutes and this will sterilize your Mooncup. It can then be stored in its organic cotton pouch until the next cycle begins.

To summarize, the Mooncup is:

* Soft, comfortable and convenient

* Invisible and secure

* Ideal for exercise and travel; safe for sleep

* No harmful exposure to bleach and chemicals

* No risk of allergy; helps avoid thrush/dryness

* Recommended for heavy and light flow

* No waste and pollution.

* Lasts for several to ten years

* You only need one Mooncup

* 10 times cheaper than disposable products.

* A financially sustainable investment.

* FDA approved; won many awards abroad.

* Over 1500 South African women use it.

* That's 15 million less tampons in oceans and land fills so far.

COMMENTS:

'Moon cups are great! I'm close to menopause, but I'm glad i discovered them in the last couple of years, anyway...Once I was on a trip and i'd forgotten to bring mine. I was in a pinch and actually went out and bought a 2nd one! because i believe in them so much, and i couldn't, in all good conscience, go back to paper products --  even though it meant spending a lot more $$$.'

'I have been using my mooncup for just over 2 years now and its such a relief to know that I have protection always and not to worry about going to the shops to 'stock up'.  I also go to sleep with my mooncup inserted and its so much more comfortable, safer and 'dry' than pads.  I feel good about  doing my part to keep the enviroment clean.' WHICH SIZE?

The Mooncup is available in two sizes.
Size A measures 46mm in diameter ad 50mm in length.
Size B measures 43 mm in diameter ad 50mm in length.
Both sizes have a pull stem 21mm long,
which you can trim to the length that is right for you.

Size A is recommended for women who have
given birth vaginally or who have had a caesarean
section and aged 30 or above.

Size B is recommended for women who have
not given birth or who have had a caesarean
section and aged below 30.

Please ensure that you select the correct size.
For hygiene reasons we cannot exchange
Mooncups once they have been dispatched.

Please note that women over the age of 30 years
old are increasingly likely to need the size A regardless
of giving birth. This is because the tone of vaginal
and pelvic floor muscles naturally reduces with age
but to varying degrees in different women. Some
activities will maintain tone, such as yoga, pilates,
dance, so if you are advanced in any these, or
similar activities take this into consideration when
choosing which size you need. Corrective surgery
to the vagina will also have implications.
