Summer Research Programmes (In IITs,TATA-INSTITUTE,JNCASR ETC) are very important and a policy needs to be framed how to deal with it.
As from what I know till now these are the main things I need to focus.
1. Good academically record in College.
2. Good research oriented record and contacts with physics department head about nanotech and improving relations with your physics head and be in conversation with him.
3. Doing courses of computer to be last resort but priorities should be to find a cource in physics as soon as possible and keep updated yourself with physics programme and find other programes like nstc.
4. Find some ways to get into physics olmpiard wherever possible like in IIT bombay.
5. Think of getting somehow in pure physics and try gaining pure physics like QM SS EE etc.
6. I think you need to have all the year cources in free source OS like linux and somethings in java.
7. Need to thing of being a member of more organization doing research in physics.
8. Need of focusing more nanotech.
9. Try to have more research oriented ideology.
10. Try to search more programs may of private industry on research.
Also thinking of how much weakness it is of not selected in NTSC and Physics Olmps.
Selection Procedure (IIT Bombay)
The selection procedure consists of preliminary screening of applications, followed by personal interviews to be held in a decentralized manner at the department level.
Selection criteria will include consistently brilliant academic performance (relative rank in the class/University), work carried out by the student besides his regular academic work, participation/recognition in competitions such as Techfest, Olympiads, National Talent Search Exams, and performance in the interview.
