I have been in touch with the develoments from a long time my advice is not to go for Hyper threading that is not worth the money we pay for it.And think of AMD if you want to be giving more value for your money.
I am using AMD Athlon 64 and it running better than the porcessor I would have buyed for the same of intel. And also I am in love with AMD also used for a long time duron and seen K62 closely.
I am using RAM of Hynix and would advice you do that wherever possible as most companies RAM are very bad in quality still but shows on the screen that they are faster.
I am using motherboard of MSI 754 pins as that time 939 were expensive if you purchase a comp then go for 939 they are best and future proof.
Monitor I think are good of phillips that I think are best and gives more value for money.
Mouse and keyborad think of logitech.
HDD have no option other than segate and I am thinking to go for sata now.

If you are planning a upgrade and you are on AMD platform I can help you immensely as I have quite a good knowledge on AMD and using AMD for a decade now.

My advice is go for not the best but the secound best as you will no be using the comp for 50 yrs but only 3to 5 yrs so you need more speed and latest technology than best quality which is of no use for suck a short time.
