Roger Stone, a hard-nosed detective with the New York City Police Department, is always willing to take that extra step for justice, even if he has to bend the rules to find it. While on an unofficial stakeout, a drug deal goes bad and Vincent Venecinii, a prominent organized crime lord, and his wife are murdered the next day. During the investigation, Stone and his partner are taken off the case and forced to hand it over to the FBI.

Unsatisfied, Stone starts searching for answers on his own and is thrown into a world of government conspiracies and mass murder; murders so horrific, even Stone can’t believe a man could conceive such a diabolical plan. Thorns of an Innocent Soul: Novella

Barbara Watkins

http://www.barbezbooks.com

It’s ironic, in life Ella and Jennifer were each her own worst enemy. But in death they are closely bound together, each wanting redemption. Ella had the assumption that if you had beauty, wealth, and prestige then everything you wanted would come to you.

She was abusive to her children; we assume she was responsible for her husband’s death, although it was never quite clear. But most likely she was. She lived her life with no regard for human life. She never thought that one day she would be the recipient. Jennifer, taunted and abused by her mother, was filled with rage and thoughts of revenge. She took none of the responsibility for the pain or grief she had caused in her own life. It was easier to blame her mother.

She, like her mother, never believed the day of reckoning would come. She would never accept the belief or faith in God, even when her appointed angels gave her many signs. So are we to believe that faith and forgiveness overpower greed and revenge? If not in life, then surely in death.

Behind the Red Door

Barbara Watkins

http://www.barbezbooks.com

Growing up in a small town in Missouri, there weren’t a lot of opportunities to publish your first manuscript, so I would like to acknowledge PublishAmerica for taking a chance on my first book. Always being interested in the supernatural and seeking to learn more about the phenomenon inspired me to write this story. Although it’s fiction, I can relate to my character Nikkie. When I was a small child, from time to time, I experienced certain similar occurrences. I think we all want to believe that death is not final, and that we can still connect with our loved ones that have passed. So if you want to read a good ghost story, Behind the Red Door is for you. Special thanks to my husband Jim and my kids, Amanda, Jerry, and Steve, for their love and support. I would also like to thank my niece, Christy, for encouraging me not to give up.

Quenched

T.H. Yarborough

http://www.publishedauthors.net/dolphiny

Over the course of this novel, Andrea experiences date rape and perpetrates revengeful gay rape, two very controversial subjects in themselves. But despite the shock factor, the author handles them with care and sensitivity so you couldn't imagine the book any other way. Initially you may be mistaken of the subject matter if you go by the title of this novel alone. I immediately thought that I would be reviewing a purely erotic novel. But this turned out not to be the case. Admittedly there are scenes of a sexual nature, but they are intertwined with blackmail, intrigue and murder. An excellent mix for any novel. At times the events were quite comical though I am not entirely sure this was intended! I thoroughly enjoyed Quenched from beginning to end and will certainly be looking out from more of this author in the future.

Bitten

Randall Dyck
http://www.randalldyck.com
With Hitler’s Third Reich crumbling, a secret Nazi biological attack is unleashed, releasing over 1000 “weather balloons” with a deadly virus on-board each of them. Now, in modern-day America, the virus is innocently released. After so many years waiting, the virus had mutated into something even the evil doctor of inspiration had not anticipated. The voracious virus promptly infects its human hosts at 100 percent effectiveness with a malady that enhances their core make-up—what they truly are—into a ridiculously bizarre representation of what they were before they became infected, good or evil. The rapid and horrific explosion of metamorphosis is shocking, even if it is sometimes a good thing—a needful thing. The battle between good and evil suddenly erupts as both sides viciously go at each other in a nighttime street battle that sometimes goes hand-to-hand. Some say that good always wins over evil.

Trading Places, Raising Mom

Sylvia 'Tip' Allison

http://www.angelfire.com/poetry/sylvia2005/raising.html

Throughout the long enduring months after being told our mother had Alzheimer’s, it was so hard to realize she had forgotten her family. There were no more phone calls, cards or that sweet voice talking to us anymore. It wasn’t her with that cute little smile or just a friendly hug. This was a struggle for all of us; she had basically forgotten how to do anything. Medically through testing, her brain had given way to a devastating disease that would now control her very being. No more laughter, just a frown. No more talks, just a whisper. And now there were tears—tears that could not be explained. Worrying and fretfulness took over this loving lady, wondering where her children were or anything she could have thought of. She had just lost everything. Without the times we shared and knowing this lady gave me the best in life she could, I learned all over again the joy of motherhood. No matter what the reason, our loved ones need protection, the understanding of love, and patience. This is what I had to learn all over again after raising my three sons. I was now raising Mama.

A. Kate Ables

“If anyone had told me a week earlier that I would be investigating the mysterious death of a kid I had never met, I would have told them to shove off. Not only was that completely not in my nature, it was also the most idiotic thing I have occupied my time with—ever. And that includes the time I made a mud puddle in the back yard and played for hours. And the time I snuck out of my window as part of an imaginary initiation and had nowhere to go but back through the front door.”

Too many questions surround the puzzling death of Ricky Sullivan, and what begins as a series of innocent questions quickly develops into a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

Willing to forfeit but unable to call off the game, Emsley Simons faces the ultimate question: who’s after her?
