Nanny Doodle Day

Tired parents smile and say,

“It’s a Nanny Doodle Day.

Don’t you want to go and play?

Let’s give her a call.

One more won’t matter after all.”

“Little Cameron wants to come and play.

Can he, please, come and stay?"

"Thank you so much, we’re on our way.”

"Now this is the way it’s going to be.

Nanny doesn’t charge a fee

And I’m telling you flat,

Nanny doesn’t accept any brat.

Respect is a must.

I don’t expect any fuss.”

“I’ll behave. I promise Nanny.

May I, please, go play with Danny?”

Children in the yard now number ten.

Oh No! Laura has skinned her chin.

Justin has knocked the toddler down

Causing him to land hard on the ground.

Hugs and kisses are freely given all around.

“Stetson, get out of that tree!

Val, don’t mess with that bee!

Chris, the ball went where?

Austin, do really think that was fair?

Give it back, don’t make me come over there!"

Tired parents smile and say,

“It’s a Nanny Doodle Day

Don’t you want to go and play?

Let’s give her a call.

Three more won’t matter after all.”

“Ian, Summer, and Ashley want to come and play.

Can they please come and stay?"

"Thanks, Nanny, we’re on our way.”

Time for children to be fed.

Then, quiet time when books are read.

The pool is waiting just outside.

Hurry with the book, before they die.

“You must be careful on that slide.”

Laughing, splashing, and children being funny

Brings other children with towels running.

Mothers start arriving at five

To the dismay of the tribe.

“Mom, please, just one more dive!”

As the children are begging to stay,

They are all finally pulled away.

Tired Nanny can hear the mothers say,

“Tomorrow will be a Nanny Doodle Day.”

Yard looks like a tornado has hit

But by the pool old Nanny will sit.

Mark arrives at eight.

Cleaning the pool is his fate.

Smiling at Nanny, he closes the gate.

“Don’t worry Nanny.

We will have help a plenty.

The yard will be cleaned

By Gary, Jason, and Dean.

You know you are dearly loved,”

As he gives her a hug.

Giving him a smile,

Nanny hobbles inside

Just to rest for a while.

Morning arrives bright and sunny.

Phone rings at seven, this isn’t funny.

But, it’s okay.

God made it this way.

A day without pain

Is a day not to be sane.

It’s a day for love and to watch the children play.

It’s a time for a Nanny Doodle Day.

“Michael and Kathy want to come and play.

Can they, please, come and stay?”

“Yes, Dear. It’s a great Nanny Doodle Day.”

"Thank you, Nanny, we're on our way."
