Hi and welcome to our school/family website. Hopefully, you will find this site to be helpful. I plan to use it as a Home-School Connector. This site is easy to use. Just "click" on the pages above to view different sections of this website. In the beginning of the school year, try to visit all the above sites. It will help you to learn more about Grade 2!
Perhaps the most useful part of this website will be the downloadable sites. You can find many of these sites on two pages, "Links for Kids" and "Famous Authors Websites." Please feel comfortable making suggestions or adding to this website. Together we can create a school/family website that will keep us working together!
I have been teaching for over 30 years and continue to enjoy learning with my students! I have taught in several grades (first, second, third, fourth, and fifth). I think that I enjoy second grade the most because it seems to be the year that the children leap into writing! All the Language Arts skills that the children learned from their first grade teachers come together in this grade. It is easy to become a passionate teacher of writing because young children have such vivid imaginations!
I chosed getting my Masters of Education with Mathematics Concentration because I always had an interest in working with numbers. I love helping my students learn "tricks" to help them remember their facts. Using manipulative to solve problems and understand math concepts is widely used in my classroom. Science is another one of my favorite subjects to teach! I especially enjoy our "Matter" unit in second grade because we do lots of experiments in class. This year "Rocks and Minerals" will be our new unit. We will also further study insects. I know that in Grade 1 the children did a lot with BUGS! We will be adding a lot of literature to our science units!
My husband is a MIS Manager at a company called AliMed. My son David is fifteen years old and he attends Cumberland High School. He is an excellent reader, loves music, and making animated movies on his computer. He also helped me make my first web page! His hidden talent is doing "Yo Yo" tricks.
I love animals! I have two cats, Chrysanthemum and Kiya (Kee a). Kiya is still a kitten and her name means "playful lady." She is an Egyptian Mau and is extremely friendly. I named Chrysanthemum after one of Kevin Henkes books. I enjoy reading a lot, but can honestly admit that I LOVE picture books for children the most! A few of my favorite authors are Kevin Henkes, Jan Brett, Eric Carle, Tomie dePaola, Bernard Most and Robert Munsch. I enjoy walking or riding my bike on the bike path with my husband, Fred. My favorite exercise is SWIMMING! I enjoy playing cards, bowling and being with close friends. I love vacations because it gives me extra time with my family.
