101. Old Risu told his students, "Yesterday I liked you all very much. Tommorow I may not like any of you at all. Today is still in question." 102. Old Risu sat down in the hall. "It's raining out and I got wet. Now I am inside and will get dry. Fall is like that." 103. After a long day Old Risu made himself some tea. When he finished the cup He said, "thank you," to himself. Passing a student later he said, "I have just met the perfect host." 104. Old Risu asked a student, "Have you had a bath today?" The student replied, "no." Sensei shoved him down in the mud. "Now go and take a bath." The sensei then sat in the mud. He called after the student, "It's ok. We're old friends." 105. One day a student asked the sensei, "Why do you sit so much?" Old Risu answered, "The cushion gets lonely." 106. One night the students Stood in the courtyard Watching a storm. "Look the lightning is getting closer," Said one. Old Risu laughed saying, "Don't worry. It will never strike you." 107. "What have you obtained today That you didn't have yesterday." Old Risu asked his first student? "The old squirrels nest is his alone." 108. Old Risu wrote on a sheet of paper. "Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing." Handing it to his student he said, "What do you see?" When he had finished drinking He set his cup upside down on the table. The student asked, "Why did you do that?" Old Risu replied, "I didn't want the universe to escape." 115. A student asked, "After the tea is picked What should we do with The discarded leaves?" "Make tea," said the sensei. 116. The first student drew a circle in the courtyard. Old Risu stood in it Holding up his open umbrella. The student questioned, "What's that supposed to be?" "It's so your crap can't hit me," Said the sensei. 117. "What was the Buddha's first word," Asked a student? "Nothing to mention," Said the sensei. "How could that be," Said the student? "He really stepped right in it," Laughed old Risu. 118. As old Risu sat He scratched his head vigorously. "Ah, now I have it," he cried with joy. He then rose and stood on his head. "Now I'm just like the rest of you." 119. One day at tea the sensei asked his student, "Am I the guest or the host?" Politely the student replied, "You are the host Master." "Perhaps in your mind," said old Risu. 120. When a student told the sensei About his latest koan Old Risu said, "I never heard it." "But what about my thoughts Master," Said the student? The sensei placed his hands over his ears. 121. The sensei was visibly smiling while sitting. "What's so funny," asked a shocked student? "Your indignation," Said old Risu. 122. "If the Patriarch's all used One Vehicle It must have been well built," Said Dokyo Chozen. "Who says so," replied old Risu? "Look at you." They both laughed. 123. The sensei told a student, "I travel the path each day And never go anywhere. How did you get here?" 124. Someone accused old Risu Of glowing in the dark.
