It is a local area grassroots organization that is part of a national network of family groups working to improve the quality of care for and treatment of those with mental illnesses now known to be biologically based brain diseases. The group, founded in 1982, is affiliated with both NAMI-Mass and NAMI ( National Alliance on Mental Illness ), our parent organization.
We believe treatment for mental illness becomes more effective when there is active collaboration among the individual with mental illness, his/her family members, involved mental health professionals and the community.
