RALPH'S NALGO POSTCARD SITE.
| |
|
The holiday camp was opened in July 1933 to provide the members of nalgo with holidays in pleasent surroundings away from the smoke and grime of the cities. Mid summer the holiday was limited to members but for the rest of the year it allowed members of other unions.
There were bowling greens and tennis courts and other activities
arranged to keep everyone happy. The children where well catered for with a play area and the beach with its cafe and gardens a short distance away. The name centre was used from its inception to help to improve the image of this type of holiday. Sadly with the advent of cheap foreign holidays it closed in 1974.
It is now " Knipe Point" a small estate of bungalows, but ask a "Scarborian" where is Knipe point the answer will be "oh you mean nalgo" and here i am a retired member and resident trying to preserve its memory. | |
