Sami was born in Charters Towers in central Queenland and was originally purchased as a show dog. He did very well in the showring as he was a friendly natured dog with an outgoing personality. He accumulated 39 championship points before an accident ended his show career. At 9 months old he escaped from my yard and he took off to play with my Arabian horses. Before I could call him back he sustained a kick to the head which broke one side of his skull into seven pieces, demolished his eye socket and crushed his brain. A team of specialist surgeons were rushed from Sydney to Brisbane in order to reconstruct his head, and hopefully repair most of the damage.
Although the reconstruction went well, apart from loss of a tear duct, he took approximately 2 years to recover from the bruising to his brain, regain balance, relearn about his environment and walk steadily. He has remained permenantly disabled as a result of losing sight in his left eye and hearing in his right ear. However, few showjudges picked that he had anything out of the ordinary for a show dog !!
The accident left him lacking in confidence and subdued. We also noticed that his hind feet tended to be lazy and toed in, making him trip occasionally.
18 months ago we decided to introduce our puppies to Lure Coursing and took Sami along as cheerleader. However, he seemed keen to have a go so we let him run. He held true to the course but lost sight of the lure when it turned to his blind side...but that was the only time in the following 18 months that he ever allowed that lure to escape! He scored 150 points for that run but scored in the champion range after that.
After a few Lure Coursing dates we let the other enthusiasts into the 'secret ' that he was handicapped. He qualified for Lure Coursing Champ two months ago which is great, but the real prize is the change in his mental well being, attitude and confidence. His back feet no longer toe in and I believe that the activtiy of Lure Coursing stimulated his brain to aid in his physical recovery. Lure Coursing has rehabilitated him to our happy chappy from Charters Towers, and a Champion to boot!(we always knew he would be a champ!).
Kalil is available for outside stud duties from Jan 2008. He stands 27 inches at the shoulder, has a moderate shoulder, good depth of chest, and a moderate angle of croup as well as adequate loin. He carries very good bone circumference. He has a long sweeping and effortless stride. His colouring is dark fawn to gold with black fringing on ears and tail, as well as a few dark guard hairs on his shoulders. He has a mild to sooky nature, is extremely biddable and easily handled by beginners and child handlers. He would suit bitches which are line bred where the qualities of expressive movement and more substance are required.

Naadirah Vega is the most successful show puppy of the litter, having won Junior in Show and Puppy in Show titles in numerous shows. He has been recovery from an injury for the past 12 months and due to recommence his show careeer in 2008.We expect to add him to our 'Wall of Fame" before too long. Vega gained his Aust Ch. title in 2008 and hopefully he will return to coursing in 2010. For Salukis world wide http://www.saluki.org/
